I like to listen to rap before races to pump me up. But being an almost 30 year old white guy. I have trouble keeping up with whos who in rap.
I need to freshen up my library
Right now I primarily listen to Eminem, Kanye West and Black Star (MOS DEF and Talib Kwali)
I'm wondering if anyone can reccomend some good rap for me to check out and possibly load onto my ipod.

I go back to the semi-old school when rap was violent, energetic, and catchy. Onyx's "Bacdafucup" is a great pump-me-up record.
i can tell you, the best album i have heard in the past year is definitely "fishscale" by the Ghostface Killah.
get this album, there are at least 6-8 good hype songs to listen to before races and all the songs got tight lyrics.
plus the RZA produced it so you know the beats are good.
also there are a lot of guest appearances from all the other members of the Wu-Tang Clan.
There are no good rap albums or songs

I absolutely agree with the guys who said The Roots and J5.
Also you should absolutely check out Jedi Mind Tricks. "Violent by Design" is an awesome album.

definitely get Da Drought 3 by Lil Wayne. It is distributed freely, and is probably the best mixtape of the year. Pretty much any mixtape by The Game is a safe bet. Jay-Z, any and all will be good. 2pac - Killuminati has a lot of really good songs that are easily accessible.
