Irecently have been prescribed and begun taking 60 mg of adderall each morning. It is an amphetamine that frequently causes an elevated resting heart and could raise core temperature by raising one's metabolism, particularly until the body beomes acclimated to the drug. Although I haven't noticed any side effects, I don't regularly monitor my resting heart rate and, frankly, have no idea if it has gone up at all. Having performed a lot of internet research on this issue and talked to my doctor, I have found a surprising dearth of studies or even anecdotal evidence regarding the effect, if any, amphetamines on endurance running. I am not ever going to be drug tested and am not worried about it being banned, per se, but I also am not interested in any artificial advantage by taking anything, especially if it could risk my health. I focus on the half/full marathon. I have heard of sprinters taking it as a PED. I am not looking to increase performance through drugs, but I certainly don't want to decrease it. Does any of you know anything on the effects of a low dosage of an amphetamine on distance running? Previous discussions on this board didn't really offer much information. Would an artificially elevated heart rate have any effect on performance? What about any factors I am overlooking? The medicine helps a lot but I am not willing to sacrifice performance and/or put my health at risk. I would appreciate any information you have (studies, anecdotal evidence or otherwise). Thanks, T.
