are you serious?
it looks like the flotrack guy just walked up and started asking questions. he probably just looked like an amateur with a camera and his lead was something like, "you got beat by lagat and webb, got third, obviously not what you wanted today right". imagine how you would respond to that. perhaps the guy should have been more professional and introduced himself. Mottram isn't some NCAA runner who reads letsrun and knows who the hell flotrack is, I'm sure with a quick introduction, "hey i'm _____ from flotrack, we cover races and do interviews for track and field in the U.S. would you mind speaking about the race for us real quick" something of that nature would have been appropriate. i'm a fan of flotrack but these guys haven't done too many pro races yet so i'm sure they'll learn their way. he did seem to ease up a little after the initial shock of it all, but he definitely was trying to go cool down or something, he wasn't ready for an interview right then.
i'm not the biggest mottram fan because aussie sources claim he's dirty, but i think (and i'm guessing that you were mostly joking) that because he says f*** once means he has turrets is a bit off. I'm guessing you don't know many europeans, aussie's, south africans. this is how they talk.

Oh really? Which ones? Why hasn't this been speculated about in the press? I call bs on this one.
Yes, I agree. It was an unprfessional way to address him. His first reaction was priceless. And I like how tried to walk away, lol.
Dirty as in will race hard and has been involved in a few minor collisions in races I hope. Really I do hope that is what you mean.
I am an Aussie Runner based in Melbourne where Mottram is from and I can tell you that no-one down here thinks he hasn't got where he is through anything but hard work, consistency and then some more hard work. He demonstrates none of the characteristics both physically or historically (if you trace his performances) that those using drugs posess.
Bring it to the table if you are going to make accusations. What Aussie sources and what are your claims. Bring it.
(As far as interviews goes. Anyone that saw him interviewed after being taken down from behind at Melbourne Commonwealth games - which are a big deal here - in front of his home crowd would never think anything but legendary about this man).
Dirty or not, his mouth is dirty and his attitude sucks when he loses. His interview after the Millrose Wanamaker mile was just as dirty and crude. I used to respect him but now I don't care what he does. He is a good runner with a massive chip on his shoulder, In guess it's the way he was brought up. He is a proffessional athlete and should behave like one. You are in the spot light all the time......behave, kids listen to what you have to say, Mottram needs to wash his mouth out with soap
He is an emotional athlete, nothing wrong with, I can't believe alittle profanity bothers some people, it's just words and it's not like kids of all ages haven't the f-bomb before. Let it go man and go back to bible school!
If someone stuck a camera in my face after a race and started asking me questions without introducing themseleves, I'd react the same way. The guy truned up to NY to win and it's only natural to be pissed when you first walk off the track in 3rd. I would have kept on walking (after that first question) if I were him.
Would have been good to see what Fam would have said the second he crossed the line after his 5k!
Just a quick comment of the dirty tag someone was trying to pin on him. I live in Melbourne and there have been some comments, but sadly, in this day and age, anytime someone runs well, the question will always be asked. His progression over the last 7-8 years seems pretty natural to me. His PR's are similar to what David Moorcroft was running 25 years ago and I'm pretty sure he was clean.
Tourette. A Turret is something on a tank.
AMEN to that sir.
They say the real personality, persona etc of a sportsperson comes out in the hands of defeat and dissapointment.
Definitly the case with Mottram.
Did you listen to the whole interview?
I thought he was quite gracious in his comments about Alan Webb. Every song on the radio has the f-word in it.
I think it is great that he is totaly pissed at losing just shows how much he wants to win. More people should take his attitude, nothing wrong with it.
I will agree that at first he looked at the interviewer is if they were some sort of track perv that he just wanted to get rid of, funny.
Realy dont understand what the fuss is about, infact i thought he came across well. It was quite refreshing to see an athlete talk naturally in a post race interview
The person who says he was less than gracious after Millrose has an extremely, extremely faulty memory
Pssh--the flotrack guy was a dick. He definitely did not look like he was ready to be approached, like he was trying to collect himself, and he was still a good sport about it in complimenting webb and wishing him good luck.

First, Flotrack, hopefully you'll learn from this. I really appreciate all the time and money you guys spend doing what you do, but honestly, I would have pulled a Kenny Rogers on your ass if I were in Mottram's shoes.
Second, I'm very impressed with Mottram's performance. He runs a 28:25 10k on a tough Central Park course 2 weeks ago, comes back this week and runs a 3:54 mile, and now has a 2 mile at Pre on the schedule for next week before, what I am assuming is going to be, a final large training stint before heading to Europe for the summer and gearing up for the World Championships. He's one of the most consistent runners out there and proves it by stepping up to the plate and giving it his all time and time again. I have no doubt he's going to be right there in the mix come WC's later this summer.
Third, I have to hand it to him for what he said in the interview. He obviously knows where he is in his schedule, he knows where his competition is in their schedule, and he realizes what it his he seems very realistic and understanding of that. Just like after the Central Park race he gave all the credit in the world to the guys that beat him and was the first to say, "Ok, my bad, I gave it my all, I'm not quite there, but that's ok. Check back with me in two months and let's see where I am."
As far as the cursing goes, who the f*** cares?
Didn't Pre used to get a little feisty when he lost? I seem to recall him describing a competitor and their tactics as "chickenshit". Oh wait, but he 'went for it' so that makes it ok...
i'm one of the biggest mottram fans going! ive met him b4 and hes a nice guy but i just dont think you need to use foul language as much as he does, and i'm only 16 so you think i wudnt care but i jus dnt think its right!
I don't care too much about the cursing. He should just wait until the camera is off. Also, didn't Webb do a 10K last year and then jump the the 2 mi and 1500/mi? I wonder how that strategy will affect Buster. Hopefully better that is affected Webb.
