So, basically, half of letsrun.com is a locker room for guys who were never any good at locker room talk. Right?

any theories why this thread has degenerated quickly into "locker room" talk and mildly offensive comments while the other thread that is a day older has been a nice exchange of ideas for the most part?
come again Doc.
She's a great looking girl. Just because I'm an old guy doesn't make me blind. And just because she is young doesn't make her look any uglier to me. ;-)
If she doesn't like it, she can quit wearing spandex I guess.
Really, though, she and her parents seem to be dealing with it pretty well. It'll blow over soon enough.

"Oh thousands of men think I'm gorgeous, my life is so bad." Cry me a freaking river! I'm sorry but this girl needs to put a positive spin on this. She's a sex symbol and she can use that to her advantage. She doesn't have to sell out and pose nude or anything, but she could model should her pole vaulting career come to a screeching hault....or even if it doesn't she could supplement her income by capitalizing on her God given good looks.
They're probably more worried about some crazy kidnapper a la John Reagans attempt to nab Lindsey Ferguson last year.
There's already board threads and whole web pages dedicated to her hotness...that's already going over the line for an everyday HS student.
She's gotten a lot more attention in REAL life too, even having a Brazilian magazine call to do a photo-op with her. I'm sure they get strange calls or people that come up to her at meets. Even if anyone came up to her with good intentions, she would probably be nervous at this point. I'd imagine she would be feel very vulnerable right now, almost like a target for a sexual predator.
It's just something that she's going to have to learn to deal with, it's just all too new and unexpected for the Stokkes right now.
Can they get in trouble for saying she is a sex symbol and citing a photo of her being under 18?

The specific photo that websites and bloggers have used repeatedly of Stokke that show her standing at the end of the runway adjusting her hair with one-hand is a photo that was taken by professional track and field photographer, Victor Sailer.
This photo ( as well as others ) have been used without his permission or authorization. That makes for a very good case of copyright infringement.
The only problem is that many of these blogs and websites are owned/run by young men ( or kids for that matter ) and they have no assets at risk. Thus, they sit back and just laugh at a professional photographer that is requesting ( nicely ) to have his photos removed from their website/blog.
There is very little accountability with the Internet.
If you don\'t have much to lose in the first place, you can damn well pretty much do what you please.
Sad, but true.
that last post would be a great way to end this thread.
Not to sound cruel but 9/11 was the greatest thing that ever happened to FOX NEWS and sadly 2/3 of my family watch it zealously.
To give credit some of their newsbabes ARE hot.
she doesn't want attention yet she seeks out the Post to do an interview in a major publication about how she doesn't want misguided attention?
I'm still lost on this. I'll have to ask her what her intentions were on our wedding day i suppose.
The Family certainly looks to be struggling with this issue.
I'm not so sure that appearing on Fox TV News was the appropriate answer, let alone agreeing to be quoted in yesterday's Washington Post article. I think that this "hurricane" would pass if they were to just stop talking to the media.

Because Stokke, by agreeing to go on TV to discuss her objectification on the Internet is now complicit in her own objectification in another medium and therefore fair game again ... or so some here seem to feel.
"That's quite a catch, that Catch 22."
I'm sick of hearing about this.

Fox news is exploiting that poor girl. Where are the morals at that place? I bet Hillary had something to do with this.
Fox News is a republican channel they would never let Hillary have anything to do with anything on that channe besides talk on it, and they would lambast her.
just as an aside, does everyone really think shes that good looking?
Shes a pretty girl, definitely, no arguments there, but I don't think she's a knockout.
Is it just that shes pretty, and does track, so the goggles come in to play a bit?

I completely agree. I saw the pics and I don't see what the big deal is... She looks more like a gymnast than a model. Cute definately, but not in the league of some of the former hotness thread champs...

Unfortunately, no. Do you have a link?
I wonder if all the press she gets will translate to more viewers watching the CA state meet live on TV.
Prime Ticket usually does a great productin job with high school meets. They show all the running events and don't cut from say 1600 after the first lap. They show the entire race of every event and in the past and interview the winner. They show meets how they should be shown. I hope they get rewarded with a ton of viewers.
Of course, this meet will be shown live so they might run into problems they don't normally have to deal with but I think they will do a good job with it. I just hope they make sure the camera man gets out of the lane for the girls 800 this meet.

I'm almost afraid to ask - what happened in the girls 800?
