I don't think he worded it that way in his resignation letter.
Actually, he quit the team out of respect for an agreement he had with Johann at the beginning of the season when they hired him. He is a good sport and handling the absurdly drawn out process of investigation a lot better than Ulrich or Landis have (among many others).
Ivan may have doped, I'm a fan of his but I admit it's quite possible. That being said, I hope the truth is found soon and he can go about his life, either as a husband and father or as a world beating mountain stomping badass. I'll always remember him for 2004 when he stood up to and beat Lance in the Pyrenees, good stuff.
I'll miss Ivan. anybody know how Mick Rasmussen is doing this year? It was a thrill watching him win that killer stage in the Tour.
ohh and there was me thinking it was his dog,his granny and his mother-in-law charging up. Those bikies take the biscuit, loads of them are loading up and when one gets caught with his "hand in the bag" as the europeans say
they all act surprised and start whining and whingeing about loyalty and respect.
One even tried to blow the whistle on them all once but no-one believed him, until of course they caught some Dr Cagliari and his cabinet. Then the spanish tried to sweep it under the carpet in case some of their star footballers
or tennis players were involved. Took a German civil law suit for 'misrepresentation' to open it all up again.
It's the only way now, when they go down that road you gotta hit them with court cases that will hit them hard in the pocket and even threaten them with some serious prison time, then they might think twice about it.

You actually think he's walking away from a lucrative contract "out of respect" for an agreement? Dream on. He had already been suspended when the case against him was reopened, and this is just theater to let him escape with the appearance of dignity. He was fired.
If he was such a "good sport" then why did he not quit CSC after they had suspended him? If he was worried about being a "distraction" to a team, he should have quit then and NOT signed with a new team until his name was cleared. And speaking of clearing his name, why has he still not given a DNA sample?
This guy is just as pathetic as Landis.
Maybe a cheat, but he showed honor is resigning when it looked like he would be a burden to the team. not exactly filthy. Frankly none of the top 20 riders in the world are clear from suspicion at this point. It is hard to believe the 21st rider is also clean. It almost seems like the peleton should get a gimme and start over.
Birillo is the name actually, think it's his dog
