Go all the way back to Jay Berwanger, the first Heisman Trophy winner. He was also the first person drafted in the first ever NFL college draft, by the Eagles. He decided not to play professionally. That's kind of a wasted pick, no?
How anyone can overlook the most overrated player in the history of the NFL is beyond me. Michael Vick. All other draft busts pale in comparison to this fraud who will never, ever win any title without the game being rigged start to finish. Coach killer supreme, dumb as an icecube.
True, but Dayne was a pretty much a bust for the Giants. Wasted first round pick.

As a Chargers fan, I have to agree with your #1 and go with Ryan Leaf. I couldn't stand that guy one bit from the moment he put on the SD uniform. That guy's actually a head golf coach at a school somewhere in TX now.
And to think, Indy could've passed on Manning and gone with Leaf. Wonder where SD would be now... Though I guess Mannings don't play in SD, eh??? Anyway, Rivers did an outstanding job last year. A little more experience and SD will win a ring. FINALLY.....
On a side note, SD made up for their enormous fuck up with Leaf in the 2001 draft. Trade away #1 to the ATL, they get stuck with m. Vick (garbage), SD nabs the best running back in league in the past 5 years (MVP!), maybe all time---the man himself LaDainian Tomlinson.
Brett Favre
Ryan Leaf
Akili Smith
JaMarcus Russell
Brady Quinn
Favre: Drafted in round 2 by the Falcons; attempted five passes, completing two (to the opposition) in his rookie year; traded in the of-season for a useless CB. Is this the biggest draft bust in history?

Dayne was a bad pick for the Giants, because they didn't use him in the way he needs to be used. Dayne typically needed a lot of carries in college to get going. Of course, part of that was punishing the other team's defenders. Dayne probably needed 20+ carries a game, something the Giants were never going to do. He'd probably have been a perfect fit in Pittsburgh.
My vote for biggest busts...
1) Steve Emtman
2) Tony Mandarich
3) Any Matt Millen pick
4) Ryan Leaf
5) Lawrence Phillips

Thank you oh wise one. Could you also please tell me the lottery numbers for this weekend's draw?
Thank you
Bosworth was drafted by the Seahawks in the 1987 supplemental draft, and signed the biggest contract in team history: 10 years for US$11 million. Despite playing his entire college career on the strong side, he was moved by the Seahawks weak side. Contrary to popular belief, Bosworth did well during his short time with the Seahawks, leading the team in several defensive categories and making the NFL's All-Rookie Team in 1987. One of his worst moments happened on Monday Night Football when Bo Jackson ran into him and dragged him along to score a touchdown. A shoulder injury forced him to retire after only three seasons.

Tongue in cheek; don't take it seriously.
Try 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.
;-)
Here are five players from this year's draft who are sure-fire busts in the making:
1) Brady Quinn - enough said.
2) JaMarcus Russell - too stupid to play NFL game well.
3) Adrian Peterson - too upright, will be injured constantly.
4) Tedd Ginn Jr. -- will make some noise as a PR/KR but won't fulfill first round status.
5) Whoever Matt Millen drafts -- Karma.
Yeah its important to point out that he wasn't a player that couldn't play in the NFL (Mandarich, Griffin, etc). He was pretty good and got hurt but everyone remembers him from getting embarrassed by Bo Jackson on Monday night.
I think he was pretty crafty pumping himself up and getting all the publicity he got in college. Got big money and starred in "Stone Cold" don't forget.
Still a bust and I don't think he had the heart for the game.
I agree with the rashan salaam pick. Addicted to weed for gods sake(insert bob sagget from half baked now)
You guys are forgetting about Joey Harrington.
Emtman and Coryatt went 1-2 overall and Jeff George was a great pick. Thankfully things have gotten better
"JaMarcus Russell - too stupid to play NFL game well."
Proof? Oh wait you have none. You're just saying that because he's black. Gotcha.
OK, maybe I am being too harsh on him. He did score a 24 on the wonderlic which isn't awful, not great for a QB, but not awful either.
Look, he's coming out as a JR and only started two seasons (IIRC...30 games or so). His game isn't polished, and he's gotten by on a really strong arm and his size. Yeah, he's a big guy, but his mobility will come into question if he can't keep his weight down. Couple that with the Raiders (likely to pick him) horrible line, and he spends his time running for his life. He won't be chucking the ball 80 yards downfield much if the Raiders line doesn't improve. At his pro day, he showed that he forces short passes way too much and has trouble hitting targets. I think this kid has promise but he should have stayed in school another year and matured. NO, I don't think he's worthy of being the top pick, which is very likely. Will he be a bust? If he's taken high up and expected to be a savior, I believe he will. His ideal situation would be to go mid-first round, sit behind a competent starter for 2-3 years.
Andre Ware anyone???
He is 25-4 as a starter and has led 8 come-from-behind 4th quarter victories. Being able to throw 80 yards downfield may not be useful in the NFL, but throwing 25-30 yards on a frozen rope is. He stands tall in the pocket and keeps his focus downfield- his pocket prescence is similar to that of a Peyton Manning. He throws the ball on the run better than anyone else in this draft. Add that to the fact that he has a great head on his shoulders, despite whatever stereotypes people have about pocket passer black QB's.
It is true that he overthrows a lot of short routes, but thats easily coachable and fixable.
Let me guess, you're just like about 99% of the other so-called JaMarcus Russell experts out there who have only seen his Sugar Bowl performance, his pro day, and whatever ESPN decides to jam down your throat that day, and think you got the guy pegged.
At worst, Russell becomes an average but dependable NFL QB. At best, he turns into something we've never seen before.
At worst, he will be an average NFL

Shrug...
We'll know in a few years.
