People are always saying, generally in times of trial, "if things are meant to be" as a form of comfort.
I got out of a relationship with a girl recently, and it wasn't a mutual break up. I've been told and I tell myself that if it's meant to be, she'll come back, and if it's not meant to be, I'll get over her. But what if life is purely chance and how much work you put into things and how you act determines the outcome? Obviously you can't just sit on your ass all day and expect "the one" to come to you. Then again, many of you probably don't believe that a single "one" necessarily exists.
I've always kind of thought that this is true. But then I thought that maybe I just want to believe that to comfort myself.
