I love running and am really striving to get better--I am also a coffee addict. Does anyone out there know if drinking coffee is detrimental to running performance? Thanks!

For me one cup of coffee before a race works wonders. I have experimented with caffeine before competition and I find small amounts quite effective. I almost always run well after a few cups of coffee the morning of a race.
I always have 1-2 cups the morning of a race and have never seen anything detrimental. I also have that amount every day though so my body isused to it. I think as long as your not caffeine dependent then your ok.
I used to never drink coffee and I steadily improved my racing times.
Now I drink 2-3 cups a day and I steadily improve my racing times.
I haven't experienced any problems, drink up!
i haven't read a post abou cofee in 36 hours. thatnks for the new information.
This topic does seem to come up quite frequently. From personal experience and looking at the physiological effects on the body, coffee seems to be okay and maybe slightly beneficial IN MODERATION. However, it can interfere with iron absorption, which is the death knell for endurance athletes. I was a fairly heavy coffee drinker all through college (4-6 cups a day), and I was, unbeknownst to me, anemic the entire time (my serum ferritin was @ 12 or less as I remember it when it was finally measured). As soon as I remedied the problem, my 10k PR dropped by three minutes within a matter of months. So make sure you are on top of this!
Classic! a Monkey scores again!
I've been thinking that buzz might not be the best of ideas in longer races at the HM to M distance.
I'm an addict and I can't stop, so hopefully its good or indiffernt.
COFFEE GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
