I-man will end up on XM.
and who cares where he ends up
I hope so. I'd love to have him.
While you are right to state that people should not sit idly by while unacceptable behavior happens, who is standing up and calling for Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre, etc to stop demeaning black women and calling them "ho's"? If we're really going to stand up and condemn this behavior let's condemn it all.
But this is more about taking down an unpopular white guy than it is about righting any wrongs.
I see that Hilary and Obama jumped on the bandwagon and condemned Imus. I'm sure that took a lot of courage, beating a man who is already down. Why don't they start to work on the real problem...the fact that hip hop has inundated American slang with dozens of derogatory terms that are just fine for blacks to say in public but when some white guy lets it fly, he gets fired.

The dude broadcasts to millions every day and has a huge following. He's hardly irrelevant.
Not sure why some of you are saying he's irrelevant and unpopular. That's simply not true. Dude has been at it for 35 years and has always had extremely high ratings. I think you're trying to minimize what he said here by saying he is unpopular; sorry but that's not true; he's very popular. Personally I think a two-week suspension would have been enough. While he was fired from the simulcast, he still has yet to lose his radio job. That's probably coming though.
Your moniker pretty much sums up what you're all about and leaves you in no position to call anyone dumb - without even addressing the fact that you're too dumb toget the point. There was an explanatory post by flashlight above for intelligence-impaired people like yourself.

Wow, they made a smart business decision. If they didn't back out they'd probably get shaken down by Jesse Jackson. If I was a well known advertiser I'd back out too b/c it makes economic sense. If I was a smaller market advertiser I'd get in now because he will get a ratings increase.
You seem to think P&G have some sort of conscience. They are just looking after the bottom line.
If you were a market advertiser and you outwardly advertised with Imus, you'd be fired no matter what size of the company. While the companies are looking at the bottom line, I think they also know that PR affects the bottom line. Unless you've been walking around with a blindfold and ear-muffs, you'd know the NAACP has huge pull with PR in this country.
..and P&G is better than most the companies out there.

He has NOT always had 'extremely high' ratings, i.e. right now. I'm guessing he's not even in the top 10 when it comes to radio ratings, but if someone has a site I'd like to see it. He's past his prime, and the majority of the country had no idea who Imus was...certainly the Rutgers girls.
He speaks to millions. So does Chris Rock when he does an HBO special. Should we ban him for his offensive language?
As pointed by another poster. He is a shock jock who is paid to be shocking. Surprise! He was joking! This is why he's irrelevant. I don't think Chris Rock should be fired b/c of free speech...same applies to Imus.
I'm not saying this is a pass for Imus to say things like this without consequence. We have the right to be angry...but I hate that people like Sharpton call for his resignation when it just screams hypocrisy.
he is not 100 percent shock jock anymore - there are serious interviews and segments of the show - so, no, you he can't claim - "I'm an entertainer". Chris Rock is strictly an "entertainer".
Sharpton did not get Imus fired. Imus was fired because of his deragatory statement, and because it wasn't his first offense. Now, no one is going to do serious interviews with him - so there goes that market, and the show was going to go down the tubes because after two major sponsors pulled out - so did the smaller ones.
Imus got himself fired, so spare me the blame game.
Like I tell my 17 year old. Just because your friends got an F on their grade card doesn't make it alright for you to get an F on yours. Responsibility.
How many F's did you get 16x?

Sorry brother but you're wrong. His simulcast on MSNBC was extremely popular and just a couple weeks ago CNN replaced its American Morning anchor team because they were losing too much ground to the even increasing popularity of Don Imus' show.
This situation comes down to Freedom of Speech. Our country was created on some basic concepts and Freedom of Speech is one. Just like each American has the right to question our authorizes (government), we have the right to say nearly whatever we want about others. I believe certain words should never be used, but that is controlled by my morals.
Everyone has the right to picket and/or stop watching/listening to the Imus show. If enough of Americans stop watching/listening and the ratings drop, sponsors will leave and he will be canceled. If Americans want the federal government to dictate our morals, we might as well throw away several Amendments.
Give me a break. Imus was only fired because of the attention from Sharpton and the media. You just said it wasn't his first offense. So why wasn't he fired before? O
And spare me with "Chris Rock is an entertainer so he can say it--but Imus has SOME serious conversations so he's not 100% entertainer. Therefore he can't say it." That makes no sense.

Look you make some good points, but why is it every post you make has to point out how men's opinions shouldn't matter? I don't say "If I wanted opinions on the stock market I wouldn't ask a woman or a non-white." How offensive would that be?
well kartelite:
that would sort of be like someone asking me what it's like to have a prostate exam.....or you, a mammogram.
When I want to know about what poverty in America feels like, I don't ask my next door neighbors in the $475,000 house.
16x, while most rich people don't know what it's like to be poor, white people are a "race" just as much as any others. I was dating my girlfriend nearly a year before she felt comfortable introducing me to her parents because they were a bit taken aback that she was dating a "white boy." How do you think that made me feel, to not feel accepted by your significant other's parents because of your skin color? Do you honestly think I can't relate at all? As someone who has made a point never to base my thoughts or feelings on anyone on the basis of race, it was a bit sickening to think that in their eyes my "whiteness" made me less of a person, at least in being fit for their daughter. You really don't know what the hell you're talking about when you spout off sometimes...
absolutely, your one incident of "white boy" does not qualify you to understand centuries of racism and insults made to a group of people - so no, it has never kept you from a job, or getting an apartment or a credit card. Cry all you want - your story isn't that sad.
And there isn't one self-respecting father-and mother in-law-to-be that doesn't analyze every aspect of a future son in law, and wouldn't worry about whether his daughter is bringing home "a good mate." Believe me, he was looking at more than your skin color, how well you dress (money-financial), what you drive, how you speak, what your home life is like, etc. - because they want their daughter to be happy but also secure.
So, guess who's coming to dinner.

read about about libel law, hate speech, et cetera if you want to begin to understand the limitations on free speech. free speech is not an absolute right that is dictated only by our individual morals.
before anyone claims otherwise, i am not arguing that what imus said is hate speech or otherwise falls under libel law, et al. i am simply pointing out that the first amendment is not an absolute right, as so many pimple-faced morons on this board appear to think.
You have offended all computer geeks! What awful language you spew! I demand that you be banned from this messageboard!
I think you must official register as a minority group of "pimply computer geeks" before you can be taken seriously.
