I'd say definitely put a longer run in there. Whether it be every week or every other comes down to your overall goals I guess. Racing once a week is ok for a short period of time (to get you into race shape), but IMO the only way to reach full potential is to race no more than once a month, but with focused month-long training for a given race. And if it comes down to racing yourself into shape, go with 10ks over 5ks. But remember that racing that much also invites a greater risk for injury.
