I wouldnt be surprised if that tight hamstring contributed to your IT band injury. Before I got mine, my hamstring was seriously bugging me. It felt very strained and I still ran a 15 miler which partially contributed to my IT band. I can understand why people advocate stretching alot.
To respond to the last posting, the pain hardly improved at all in seven and a half months. That's what getting me. To give you an idea, there are days I can't really even walk.
My hamstring injury was just a bad pull that I kept agitating.
You fixed your hamstring not the cause.even if you get over your itb you are another injury waiting to happen.get your glute med fixed. How are your shins?any shin splints, achellis tendon problems, anterior knee pain?Stand in front of a mirror with as little on as possible.stand on 1 leg and make it the bad one.watch your body sway.correcting this problem takes time.you can only bike on a low cadence and no standing up.i suggest you read up on your glute med and max muscles and then find someone to fix it.good luck.
Good Article, Good Product
I truly sympathize with what you're going through. I did everything you've been doing, and though it felt "better", it still hurt to even walk. I had 2 cortisone shots, one in the knee, because MRI apparently showed inflammation behind patella, and one in the band on the lateral side of my knee. That was 3-4 weeks ago; I've continued PT and thankfully seem to be doing better. So before going the surgery route, you may want to try the cortisone injection. I so hope it helps because I know the misery you're experiencing. I injured my IT not even running, but by fast walking!
