For the Record
In any tournament play there is no guarantee that the best 2 teams play in the final game. As a matter of fact, it is highly unlikely that they would play. Anyone that lost to Florida has a claim to be the second best team in the tournament.
Very true. Ohio State dodged a couple bullets along the way to the championship game, but I'm not sure anyone can realistically dispute that the two best teams were in that game. Ohio State was ranked #1 at the end of the season and had the best record going into that final game along with a winning streak of 22 games. Florida was the overall No. 1 seed going into the tournament and the defending champions. Clearly the two best teams in the tournament. Also, if you look at the number of future NBA players on each team, those two have the most of any other team.
Florida was better than Ohio State, but Ohio State was clearly the second best team this year.
On Greg Oden, personally I think his potential is through the roof, but as far as his play this season, I've definitely seen better play from big men in college who didn't really make it in the pros. Even last night when the announcers were saying glowing things about him, I didn't think he was doing all that great.
Financially it would be silly for him to not go to the NBA next year. I think he'll eventually be a huge star and likely a basketball Hall of Fame member. I know he was hampered this year by that hand injury, but that's one of the things that kept him from being great. He was though very very good, and as far as freshmen go, he was great.
