I'm curious how you think there is no contest between the two in Europe. Hockey is definately much more popular in Russia, Finland, Sweden, Czech, Slovakia, Switzerland, and Khazakstan, actually pretty much all of eastern Europe. I'm not sure about Germany and Austria, but even Italy and England have professional leagues.
Which do you have to be in better shape to play, curling or hockey?
BOth curling and hockey are awarded the same winter olympic medals. BOth are big in Canada. Many people play both. Both are played on ice.

how many african & asian countries do u think play ice hockey at a school (school = primary + secondary) level and beyond compared to track? seriously, come on now. open your mind a little. just cos it may be on the TV in the USA and canada... that's a small proportion of the world (look at pop figures).
I do both sports and am a big fan of both. But in terms of popularity, there is a another sport out there. It involvles running and a BALL! Yes thats right football( or socer).@hands down #1 in the world.
