Hi everyone,
i realize that this post has not been eactove for a little while, but I have some questions about navicular stress fractures. I have had a bone scan and x-rays and all the regular things needed when you have a broken bone and the results where a "suspected" stress fracture of the navicular. It has now been almost 6 weeks since the intial onset of trauma (although the word trauma really means when shit hurt so much that I couldn't actually run anymore). I am a little worried about this injury since it seems to be very serious in nature. I have had stress fractures before but they have all healed relatively quickly with no complications.
My family doctor explained to me that if it "feels" like things are healing I am allowed to walk and do light cross training. If symptoms do not feel like they are getting better then I need to get into a boot and crutches, and if that doesn't work then we have to look at other possibilities.
The worry I have is if walking around is going to just make things worse or if it is going to cause the bone to only parcially heal. I have always been able to walk on stress fractures (sometimes needing to really bight my tounge) and have never needed boots, casts or crutches.
Lastly, I recieved a copy of my bone scan and x-ray results which used language that made me hopeful that I possibly caught the injury early enough that it is not to serious. The results explained that there was increased blood flow (metabolic activity) to the navicular, which is suggestive of a stress fracture. In the x-ray, there was a slight luency along the mid dorsal region of the bone.
I am not entirely sure of medical terminology when dealing with foot fractures, but I think "luency" means that there is calsification occur along the fracture line and that healing is occuring.
Obviously I am not entirely sure of what to do and I would love any advice people have to offer.
