What is anorexia?
Who the crap is going to know how much she weighed on that day and even if they did, why would they come here and post that. What is giving a number going to do? I mean if she weighs 100 or 105, is that going to make anything better or more clear?

I know that you're wrong.

Oh, ok let's put some 'healthy' weight back on her so that she will be unable to achieve her potential because you "know" that setting an American record means that she is unhealthy...
What I know is that she looks fit, fast, healthy and having the time of her life.
For once will the know-it-alls go back to being personal trainers at Gold's Gym and stay out of competetive distance running.

That isn't what I said and you know it, don't be a buffoon. If you (or anyone else) have never seen any anorexic girl run well then you haven't been around this sport very long. I've seen very anorexic girls run very well. The record (in her first race in a long time) doesn't indicate anything about her health, really, it could very well be that she put in a long block of exceptional training and then suddenly dropped some weight. Anyone who does that will be running much faster than ever. How she's racing in August and beyond will be the true tale, an e.d. will catch up with her in time if it goes unaddressed.

Hell yeah. A 105 lb weight probably means she's anorexic, while a 125 lb weight could be considered healthy for someone who trains that much.
You can't tell (or even give a close estimation) of someone's weight by looking at a picture of them. I know several guys who "look" like they're skinny (under 110 lb), when in reality, they're really 130 lb+.
Of course, you can tell someone's weight within 30-40 lbs by looking at a picture of them. But, 30-40 lbs makes a HUGE difference in flanagan's case.
Getting back to the question, what was her real weight? It doesn't have to be on the day of the AR race, it could be 1-2 weeks off.
Joshie, you have no idea what you are talking about..125 lbs. is normal for someone who trains that much? In the words of Johnny Mac, you cannot be serious.
For one thing, she is down to her elite racing weight, finally. If you ever spend any time in Chapel Hill, you will know all the social carbohydrate ingestion issues that she likely faced. She is free and clear of those distractions, and her AR proved it.

She actually looks like she packed in some more muscle in Boston rather than losing muscle/weight. I wouldn't be surprised if she actually weighs more right now than a year ago.
Agreed.
She looks well muscled for her weight, very healthy and fit.
just to stop the maddness : 112lbs about 10.6%
happy now?
she eats weell too, she was just fit
Well, it would reveal her BMI. A BMI below a certain number is considered unhealthy.
After reading a googled description of anorexia I doubt that she is anorexic.
!

Her height's 5'4, not 6'2.
I also think she does look a bit thinner but more muscular than anything. I think why it looks sooo much different is becuase she is pale and yeah it\'s winter so she\'s not going to be super tan unless she goes tanning. I think she just has got very fit from her training but I can tell she has lost some weight but she looks soo thin, I think becuase shes soo pale right now...Just my opinion
Why is it that when a girl runner is thin or pays close attention to what she eats, everyone says that she has an eating disorder, but when it is a guy, he is just considered thin because he trains a lot?
Because almost all of the guys who are THAT thin have been that way from high school, through college, and in the pros. They've sustained that body type for the long term so it's more likely their natural build. Think Alan Culpepper, he's looked like that for decades. It's probably been years since Shalane's been as thin as she is now.
Because women lose huge amounts of bone density once they lose their periods due to excessively low body fat. The bone loss happens very quickly - within a year or two.
Another reason would be that the women are statistically much more likely to become anorexic than are men.
Exactly. However a lot of coaches will not discuss the issue of very low body fat in a girl or a woman, especially if she is getting results.
They want the results without the responsibility of considering her long term health.
Shalane did look better in college. That does not mean she is not healthy now.
I have old Track & Field News magazines where she had breasts. When she quits running they will likely come back.

Nice to have you back from that ten year coma .
