I work at Runners Roost in Denver. I don't know how we compare to BRC in being busy, but we get a lot of people in. We put customer service #1, and won't keep you waiting. Stop by or check it out at runnersroost.com. We'd appreciate it. Thanks.

yea runners roost was open during the 2 blizzards normal hours a few weeks ago even when the rest of the city was basically shut down. They kept it open. They're open an extra hour than bolder running co on week days too. good service.
Runners Roost is for all those Runners World readers out there. And they still can't compete with BRC. There's a reason BRC is number one in the nation. I don't think they need to bother keeping the store open earlier or later. All of their employees are out training at all other times. I avoid Runners Roost like the plague, especially as long as their employees keep posting cheesy lines straight out of their PR pamphlets on message boards.
If anyone has been to AK the best running specialty store is SkinnyRaven sports! Back in june I was in town for the mayors marathon and man the place was packed.. great survice and products!

BRC's clientele is chiefly penguins.
I don't like BRC. Too cocky, too busy, not open long enough, terribly cramped, and they need a better layout. I doubt that many other stores do more yearly business though. I also doubt that any store is anywhere near as busy as them in the run up to the Bolder Boulder. Oh yeah, the parking sucks too! There are better stores out there for sure but I doubt they do the volume of the BRC.
I think I just confused myself
RRS is going into Boulder (and Ft. Collins, Littleton, and Colorado Springs), expect BRC to take a big hit.

True, some penguins might jump ship. I think BRC has a pretty loyal base though.
I don't know about busiest, best, etc. running store in the U.S., but hands down the WORST is Running Room. I always say that RR is Canada's revenge on the U.S. for
exporting McD's, KFC, Pizza Butt, etc. to them. When they started expansion into the U.S. in 2001, U.S running store owners were somewhat concerned. They have had a "divide and conquer", Wal-Martesque approach to running stores that worked in Canada. It hasn't caught on in Minnesota; they keep opening more stores that do relatively small business, trying to get market share. The very good running stores in the Twin Cities have not felt RR's impact. RR will spread like a cancer to other markets in the U.S., but the good running stores will flourish!!
Hre is a list of some of the top stores - http://www.runningnetwork.com/features/toprunningstoresDec06.html
Many penguins will jump ship if they can get their Beasts for $10 less, especially if RRS locates at the new mall. BRC's loyal base doesn't extend much past the BRR membership, and that's a pathetic, dying organization.
There's a BRC in Colorado Springs, which supports a genuine elite team, but apparently Runner's Roost in that city is deemed the better store. Meanwhile, BRC in Boulder offers no meaningful development opportunity for runners and they're considered the best store in the nation.
To be elgible for a Running network award, the store had to be nominated. Some stores nominated themselves. Others took a more ethical approach.
It's great seeing "ethical" and "BRC" mentioned so closely in the same thread!

If not for penguins, specialty stores would go out of biz in about a month...or less.
Philadelphia Runner in Center City Philly is a great store.
Everytime I'm in there it's packed.
They sell a ton of shoes and their staff is very knowledgable and patient.
Can anyone elaborate on RRS in Boulder? Where'd you hear this? Did I read that you think it'll be in the new 29th street mall? What's the timeline for the store to start work and open? Hadn't heard this before, so just wondering.

The store up here in Fort Collins is also awesome! Great service and selection.
What these guys call 'penguins' a business calls growing the sport. A store can cater to both the competitor and the participant. While those top age groupers are good for business and exposure; they don't keep us in business.
Think of how difficult it is for a 300lb person to walk into a running store and say they want to make a life change. My idea of a holiday is layinmg around doing nothing and eating and drinking. Those penguins are giving up my vacation. Did you know heart disease among women kill 6 times more women than breast cancer. How do you battle heart disease? Walking and running. Penguins are more than welcome in my store.
Ok - I like this worst running store idea. How about Peak Performance in eastern Nebraksa. What a depressing place...
