It's physically impossible that he DIDN'T break the 20K. He would have had to run the last 1.1K in under 2 minutes. Too bad there was no mat, now a national record will have a huge asterisk. I mean, it's fine for now, but what about when someone runs a 57:10 20K?.
How would that have changed things? Curp's 20k split in his 1:00:444 would have also been faster than Hall's 57:55.
And yes I know they're fuzzy.

The course is point to point but the elevation difference is a meter or two at most.
LMT, the course is certified, and I can't imagine that it isn't accurate. It isn't point to point, and has a slight uphill stretch into the Heights. There must be some downhill to get back to downtown, but you wouldn't really notice. Couple of down-and-up underpasses for "hills."
cograts to a great kid from a very proud Stanford alum
What I meant is that it doesn't use the same start/finish line. They are about 5 blocks apart.

CONGRATULATIONS and what a mindboggling and inspirational performance by the young Ryan Hall!!! I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT HE DOES IN THE 10,000m WHICH HE STATED HE WILL RUN before the marathon, hope he does the 10000m for the World Outdoor Championships!
INCREDIBLE RYAN HALL!!!!!!!
One thing I noticed is that, physically speaking, Hall looks like a completely different person. He just looks monstrously fast and fit now.
I'm pretty sure that Ryan has signed up for Boston in April.
Amazing run for Ryan, that is seriously a world class performance.
not sure if the link has been posted, but those texas guys at flocast are all over the race.

Aside from being the best American distance performance ever, he had NO PACERS. This is a huge run. Hall has stepped onto another level.
Khalid Khannouchi had more impressive performances.

Are you retarded? Ryan Hall was 28:18 at 10k and leading the race by more than 1 minute. There were no foriegn athletes in the half marathon as no open prize money. Keep your bullshit to yourself and not on Ryan Hall who is now a sub 60 half marathoner and embarrassed the Hanson brother, who actually stated before the race that Sell could run with Hall. Not in this lifetime, Hall is a track guy with speed and he did break the US 20k record at the World Road Race Champioinships. If you want to claim to have been on the course, not jsut an idiot at the starting line, then state your Fuc.... name, Moron! Ryan Hall ran 28:18 and 57:05 on my watch!!!!! Grow up, the Ethiopian was leading the marathon!!
I will try to make it all clear this one last time. I am very happy as everyone else tha Ryan ran such a great race. I am ecstatic. I didn't make all this up to undermine his performance or because I hate him. Unlike pretty much all of you who had access to a computer at the time, and could see all the splits, I was standing at the finish line and getting my updates from the race announcer. And as I have stated already a couple of times, he said that the Ethiopian runner was leading the race and should be arriving at the finish line in 10 minutes. This was when the clock read about 52 min. I had no clue who was running or not running. I was there only to support a friend who ran a 1:35. So, it isn't either that I wanted my friend to win the race. Nonetheless, I was surprised to see a white guy with no one trailing him for more than 2 min. I was just surprised and at the time concluded that he probably cut the course because I'm believing that the announcer is giving away the correct info. Now if all this is so hard for you guys to understand, then so be it. It was a simple misunderstanding.
Hall had to be a hell of a lot faster than 57:06 at 20K , unless he ran from 20K to the finish at 3:48 mile pace (after slowing from steady low 4:30s to 4:45 pace between 10 miles and 20K). Given how evenly he ran this morning, 56:30-56:35 is a lot more like it.
