Salazar didn't do too bad at World X-country. He was second in "82"(got outkicked).
He was on the winning USA Junior team("76")when Hulst won.

According to the meet program (I just found it my garage), #129 was Elliott Drumright of Phidippedes - Colorado.
I will go to work today and try my luck with a scanner. The meet program reminded me that the race at Burbank was not just the national championships for senior men, but also the yonger age divisions as well. Jeff Atkinson was a listed entrant in the junior men's race.
These are the entrants and their race #s from the TAC meet program.

That is not Mick O'Shea in the photo of the Viren 20K lead pack. It may be fellow Irishman Louis Kenny. Not sure though.
Rocket City Marathon:
Record: Louis Kenny - 2:12:21 - Ireland
Wow!!!
What a field.
Who would have thunk some guy named "Ryle" #254 would win!
Who is the photographer for both the TAC Senior Men's U.S. Cross Country Championships (Burbank)and the Pepsi Mile photos? Is it Joe Volk? How can I get in contact with him?
and he will contact you
I actually do have the results from the race...I remember being quite thrilled with the time as it was a big PR for me at the time...then I heard it was 200 meters short...
I am Arthur Baudendistel, number 225 on the list. Kenny Hunter, Rich Langford, Frank Krebs, Jon Klinkman, Christ Hamer and Dean Raymond were all team mates of mine at one time. I ran with Rich at American River College in Sacramento, Ca. and the others were on the Youth For Christ or Christian Runners Association road race team with me.

" Salazar was well recovered from his world-record 2:08.13 marathon in New York five weeks before."
Oh REALLY???
"Jan Hagelbrand of San Diego" third. Not too shabby in that field and not exactly a household name either. San Diego by way of Sweden. 8:26 steeple on a google, not sure if that was his PR. Tough course evidently suited him.
I ran this as a youth athlete. On the one hand, the golf course got trashed due to all those races in unexpected torrential downpours, on the other hand, combined youth/senior nationals were awesome. Those guys really inspired me.
Jan ran for USIU for several years and was eventually an assistant coach for the team, which included Tim Varley and Rune Larsson and Forest Metcalfe. A great runner and a great person!
