Due to work, an additon to my family and other obligations, my training has been limited to just 30-35 minutes per day during the week and a little longer on the weekend. I run everything from 5K races to 50 milers.
So here's the question...
What is the best training to do with this schedule?
Here's what I have in mind...
Monday - 30 minutes steady, fast strides
Tuesday - 30 minutes steady, fast strides
Wednesday - Short warmup, workout, short cooldown
(Ex. 3 by mile, 6 by 800 or 12 by 400)
Thursday - 30 minutes steady, fast strides
Friday - 30 minutes steady, fast strides
Saturday - Long run of 20-30 miles, or race-pace run of 10-12 miles
Sunday - Tempo run of 4-7 miles
So with this schedule, what races should I concentrate on the most?
I'm not a real high-mileage guy, peaking at about 75 per week incollege, so I'm thinking the marathon distance because I'm not doing enough strength workouts to really do anything in the shorter races. Plus, I can get in a really good long run on Saturday and a solid tempo run every Sunday.
Also, are there any changes that should be made to this schedule?
I'm not willing to sacrifice everything for running, especially not my family, but I still want to compete well.
Thanks in advance!
