To the medical experts and the experienced competitive runners...
Please help me identify this injury:
I have been having some left knee pain, which is basically a dull ache on the medial side of the joint. I believe it is mainly in the region where some of the quadriceps muscles attach to the joint (pes anserinus region). It feels too superior to be the MCL. The pain is not sharp or inside the joint, so it doesn't seem to be a meniscus problem. Also, the pain doesn't seem to be in the classic region of the so called "runner's knee."
My left leg has some small anomalies. I can say that my left leg is certainly weak compared to my right leg, and that my left foot tends to be "floppy" in gait. My right foot is probably pretty neutral, while I feel that my left foot is slightly pigeon toed and heel strikes laterally pretty significantly, then maybe overpronates. Even in walking or standing, I favor my right leg, and my left ankle has more "give" pronation-wise. I don't have a leg length problem.
Based on this, I have been doing some leg strengthening, particularly wall squats, steps and lunges, which I understand will take a few weeks to really show any effect. I have been training in the Brooks Adrenaline and it is probably time to replace them. These trainers fit my feet very well and address my previous bouts with PF. The wear looks normal, with the exception of heavy heel wear on the left shoe. The last gait exam I had was by a Nike employee at the Boston Expo, who suggested the Zoom Elite or Structure Triax. Running stores have put me in the neutral/ mild overpronation category.
Any advice would be much appreciated, Thanks.
