Great use of punctuation.
Ship did graduate a lot of their top guys, but I wouldn't say they're going to suck this year. They still have Gillette and Schelander as their two top guys, who will definitely be in the top-5 in the conference after their very strong outdoor track seasons. Other than that, there's plenty of young talent on that team where they can step up and make a difference this year. Coach Spence knows how to create a good team, they might not get 7th at nationals this year, but I assure you they will still be a strong force in the conference and they won't just roll over and give up.
The best new runner in the PSAC is going to be competing for Ship: they have a kid named Tom Kehl who redshirted last year. If he competes this year, he will make an immediate impact, the kid was a sub 4:10 miler in high school.
I guarantee the best new PSAC runner this year does not come from Ship.
Seems like this thread has been on page 232 forever.
agreed, he won't be from ship.
You guys must know something we don't then. Out with it. Nobody likes annoying vague posts.
The best new runner from the PSAC will probably come from Edinboro or Haven. The question of the season will be, can anyone beat Haven on the men's side? Sad thing is...no matter how well they run early on, they'll fade away at nationals again.

So true. When it comes to nationals, Lock Haven has dropped more bombs than any team I've ever seen. This has been going on for years. You'd think Russell would have adapted his training program by now after years of under-performing at nationals.
Hope you saw that Fleshman just ran 15 flat!
watch out for transfers
there was rumor not so long ago that there was an adams kid looking to transfer east. i'm not going to search the forum but i think i remember he was going to settle in the bucks county area. so maybe east stroudsburg has the best newbie in the PSAC.
So it's getting to be that time again, time for predictions for the 2011 XC season...lets get this going...
1) Lock Haven - Beast top 3 w/ Monroe, Zondlo, Getz + great supporting cast led by Miller and Gainer
2) Edinboro - team with tremendous potential led by Anderson...Naderer, Watson, Deibel, Krolick, Theilman, Thomas, Roose fill up this deep squad
3) Shippensburg - After Gillette, Schelander, and Boyer there are a lot of questions, but they'll have some studs come out of nowhere and they'll contend for the top spot
T4) Slippery Rock - Bring back a young team with great potential...Arrigoni, Elliott, Beegle all have strong freshman season to build upon...Juniors' Geddis and Koksal had solid season too
T4) California - Led by Dinzeo, this team should be strong and surprise a lot of people...Boyette, Werner, Lamhers, Poss are due for strong season...watch out for St. Francis transfers Kyle and Nick Gibson to contribute immediately + Lousville senior tranfer Chris Wolfe
T4) Indiana - solid young group led by Costello, Keller, Joson, Mack, Rutt, and Wojcik...Top man Rono will contend for top individual honors in PSAC
5) East Stroudsburg - strong returners for Warriors led by Laraia, Aldeen and Pereira...Romano and Wilson should contribute
6) Kutztown - Returning a stong team led by Reich, Fleming and Esposito who can contend for all-Psac Honors, but after that they have a big gap
7) Millersville - McBride had strong outdoor season and should be a top runner in the PSAC, after that they have a lot of questions
8) Mansfield - Plaszenski will be their stud, but the question will be how their runners progress...they are returning a full team and if all goes right they will be higher on this list
9) Bloomsburg - Brings back top runner Furman, and a few younger runners
10) West Chester - Are returning most of their team, which is always a plus
The Mamba's Pre-Season Individual Top 15
1) Nathan Zondlo, sr. Lock Haven
2) Alex Monroe soph. Lock Haven
3) Scott Anderson jr. Edinboro
4) Matt Gillette jr. Shippensburg
5) Stephen Schelander sr. Shippensburg
6) Aaron Dinzeo soph. California
7) Elly Rono soph. Indiana
8) Tim Getz sr. Lock Haven
9) Brandon Boyer sr. Shippensburg
10) Sean Naderer jr. Edinboro
11) James McBride jr. Millersville
12) Bud Plaszenski sr. Mansfield
13) Greg Laraira sr. East Stroudsburg
14) Garth Watson sr. Edinboro
15) Travis Arrigoni soph. Slippery Rock
This is not taking into account Incoming frosh, transfers, redshirts because i honestly don't have that insider info...Happy 2011 Xc Season!
well, i will wait to offer full predictions until after the season has opened and i have had a chance to see everyone's roster; but your predictions looked good. a few comments, ship will not have brandon boyer this year (i'm not in the inner circle so i could be mistaken about this). i don't see wolfe as a cross country stud, but a definite contender for the 800 crown come track season. the gibson brothers will have a chance to help cal; boyette, dinzeo, and the elder gibson gives cal enough talent up front to have a shot at a trip to the national meet.
Wow what a list! Totally off base. Did you even bother to look at results from lasts years psac race, take out the seniors, and then check out the results from psacs this track season in the 10k?

Here is my top 5 team rankings for xc 2011:
1. Edinboro- solid group of underclassmen last year, who depsite that, were instant impacts on the PSAC. they can only get better this year, and Watts has the ability to have a team show up down to a science.
2. Lock Haven- obviously a solid squad, but with Zondlo set back by summer injury and the possiblity of a tired Monroe from doing 10ks late into the summer, they look to be vulnerable to Edinboro.
T3. Shippensburg- they have the huge front runners in Gillette and Schelander, and a possible big scorer in the redshirt Tom Kehl, but after that they look a little short-staffed. however, there seems to be a number of guys ready to make that breakthrough, and Spence has had a good record of getting teams ready to go lately.
T3. California- Dinzeo is the runaway talent on the team, but there are some great supporting guys, and rumors of talented transfers that can make an impact and fill out a team. Caulfield is no stranger to coaching stellar athletes, and it looks like he will have a deeper talent pool to do so with than in recent years.
5. Slippery Rock- the team is a young team with plenty of good guys ready to make the next step up to being a bigger player on the PSAC level than in recent years. It should be a good contest between them and ESU, but young and up-and-coming talent wins out here.
Funny, On your advice I looked at the 10k from track (after about 9 guys it becomes irrelevant because there are so many big names that ran other events) and the XC results from last year and they seem to support his post. SRU returns a good young team (XC finish), Boyette and Dinzeo finished the track season strong for Cal, and IUP looks respectable in the PSAC 10k results.
There is no way you can look at XC and track and argue that Edinboro and Haven aren't the conferences top two teams coming back. And ship deserves the benefit of the doubt because they put ten in the top 29 at the PSAC meet last year, earned the region an extra nationals bid and won a DMR national title; plus they qualified like 400 kids for the distance events during track. They are the team I question as being a top three squad yet they are by far the deepest team in the conference. We won't know how good (or not good) they are until October.
I'd be interested in seeing why you feel his rankings are off and who you believe he is under/over ranking.
The banana rankings will come out September 4th for the Men and Women and hopefully I'll be able to update weekly after that.
It's obvious that the conference isn't as deep this year so it going to be fun to watch. Ship lost the most of any team, Lock Haven has a great group returning, and edinboro like always returns a young team ( why don't they ever have old teams? Do their guys ever make it all 4 years healthy?) Slippery Rock, ESU, and Cal are going to be fighting with Ship for that 3rd spot.

Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
