The only other thing that Cortland and Geneseo have going for them is what other SUNY school is even close academically and athletically?
I do not believe I have ever seen the words "Cortland" and "academically" in the same sentence. Yet I know you are not joking, and you may even be right.
This is such a sad statement about SUNY. For a school with an average SAT of 1040 to be one of SUNY's top academic schools is truly--*truly*--appalling. Geneseo aside, what an academic dump the DIII SUNY system is...
yet another "more intelligent" runner who got his ass handed to him by a DIII SUNY guy going off about how dumb everybody is in SUNY. Take a look at the results and see how slow everybody else is, thus the reason for running for a SUNY. Then look at the graduate schools the SUNY guys went to. We may have been smarter than you think and saved some money by going SUNY for undergraduate, then hit the better schools with slower guys like yourself for graduate school.
Relax, Jackson. I didn't go to Gen or any other SUNY school. I went to a private school but basically got my way paid (non-athletic scholarship), so no question of saving money!
But I *am* a NYer who's looking ahead to sending his kids to college. I had been thinking about State schools (god knows we pay enough for them in taxes), but NY's State schools are just depressingly bad or mediocre. (Possible exceptions: Gen or the Cornell statutory schools.)
I'm sorry, a school with an average (post-recentering) SAT of 1040/1600 simply has not very many bright kids--not a great learning environment.
Geneseo, New Paltz, and Fredonia consistently have freshman classes with average SAT scores well above 1100. Geneseo, New Paltz, Fredonia and Brockport were all ranked within the first tier by U.S. News & World Report this year (Binghamton and Buffalo are always top tier in the Doctoral granting category). Factors considered by U.S. News are are peer assessment, average freshman retention rate and average graduation rate, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving rate).
Among public masters level institutions, Geneseo ranks first of 256 for students graduating in four years, Fredonia is seventh, and Cortland is 19th. If they were fluff schools with low quality facilities, bad teachers and apathetic students they would not be ranked highly by U.S. News.
Geneseo is an excellent liberal arts college, Fredonia has a renowned music school and Cortland has one of the best physical education programs in the nation.
SUNY schools perform quite well in comparison to their private counterparts. NYS tax money is well spent on the SUNY system.
"P.S. I sprained my ankle in the race at ECAC last year, so I don't think thats quite a fair assessment."
Lowe, you are, without question, the biggest tool that has ever posted on this message board. You just never stop with stupid comments like that. I don't understand why it's never enough for you to just let results speak for themselves. Clearly you've said plenty with your legs, you've had a great season and run solid times. Yet after every race you're on here giving everyone the play by play and putting up whatever excuse you feel is valid if you're dissapointed with a result. Just SHUT UP already!
DONT MEAN SH!T
It does not matter where you go to school, its what you make of it. Tom Golisano went to Erie Community College, now he owns Upstate.
and here all along I thought it was only me. Thank you d3

I'm a tool because I got hurt? I dropped out 400m in because I stepped on the rail and twisted my ankle... I wasn't disappointed with that race, I just didn't get to run it, hence my comment.
I'll admit, I was disappointed with a couple of races this season, but when did I come on here and blame it on something or someone else? I complained about an elbow at pre-nats, not the race itself(I though the race actually went fine aside from that). Can you cite one example where I made excuses for running poorly, where I didn't let my results "speak for themselves" and made excuses? I gave the play by plays because I was trying to contribute to the discussion, not because I was trying to explain why I didn't win it, or whatever you seem to think I was going for. Is there something wrong with that? I'm not a guy that has an excuse for everything that doesn't go my way, and I fail to see how I come off as one by posting what I saw happening in the races.
I can understand how the whole Pre-nats incident could come off a whiny... it was, I was pissed off about it, and I shot my mouth off. But since then, I honestly can't think of one thing I have said that would come off like that. I don't get why a couple people on this board seem to think so lowly of me. Seriously, I'd love to hear an explanation of why "Nate Slowe" is such a douchey character (not to mention I'm tired of getting ribbed by my teammates about it.)
I may not know shit about Nate Slowe (that last name must hurt), but I know Nate Donaleski, and he is one funny bastard!
This is one of Nate's teammates. Our team has officially decided to condemn his further comments on letsrun.
this is getting out of control
Nate Donaleski once shit his pants in a park during a run...and all the pretty ladies lined up (ripping off their shirt sleeves/taking their socks off) for him.
...I was told the scent was like lilac and lavender in a spring time meadow. Nate Donaleski, truly a legend.
that's why you're a toolbag

thank you altough I doubt you'll be able to do that. He puts his 2cents into EVERYTHING.
Academics have more to do with other things than SAT's, for example, majors offered. There is no other school with the athletic majors that Cortland has in the SUNY system, and you can make fun of it if you want, but the best sports schools in the NCAA are primarily Phys Ed. Schools or have an excellent phys. ed ex phys major. Ohio St. Wisc. LaCrosse, Springfield, Colorado, Arizona State etc. only to mention a few.
Just because Geneseo has the highest SAT avg among incoming freshman does not mean that is the best school academically. I bet the Cortland Physical Education/ Exercise Physiology Department has a better reputation across the nation than Geneseo has with any major.

Again, take it easy, please. I have a degree in physical education myself, and I know that Cortland has produced numerous outstanding physical educators and coaches (though I'm not qualified to judge its national rep in PE).
However, I have attended and coached at schools that had 1300+ average SAT's and others that had 1000+ average SAT's, as well as schools inbetween. And I can tell you that there *is* a qualitative difference in the intellectual atmosphere at the 1300 schools vis-a-vis the 1000 schools.
Each of my schools had truly outstanding *individual* students, professors, and researchers. But there was a huge difference in the general air of the places--the lower-score schools were like an extra four years of high school, the upper-score schools projected a genuine feeling of intellectual challenge and excitement.
This is purely my personal experience, and I don't doubt that the experience of others has varied widely. But I'll stand by what I said: If one of a university system's "best" *schools* (not just a major within a school) has a student body that averages 1040/1600 on the SAT, that university system is a sad one.
Alright everyones sick of the stupid SUNY school debate. Drop it.
Indoor track anyone?
i like indoor track :)
