One thing that I've always noticed is that most of NYU's runners have a good year (or sometimes two) and then disappear. Sometimes they'll pop up again, but they're never the same. Their women's team is notoriously inconsistent. Are injuries a big problem at NYU? Is it a result of too much hard training at the Armory?
lost in new york, who exactly are you referring to? I think injuries are as much a problem at NYU as they are at any other school with a tough training regimen.
that would be fine to say except they havent trained at the armory in 2 years. outside or a place in Jersey. maybe thats why you saw alot of good times from them during outdoor. kids at nyu have alot more on their plate than running, ivy academics and most are involved in "something" else... music, theater, interships, there is a reason they go to nyu beside running.
men and women are totally seperate teams, just look at their meet schedules and you can infer what you want.
Totally agreed that women and men are very separate, that's obvious. There are reasons to go to any school other than running, it's not just NYU.
where DOES nyu train? Van Cortland? I live in a pretty urban area not far from there and I can't imagine doing pavement as much as I do - and probably more - would leave them with many uninjured guys.

Cloke is out of xc seasons.
What about SLU? They have lost French but still have Erik Donahoe and John Gaudette. Donahoe was second at states. I think Mark Burnham, the 800 runner, will come up big. His brother is a sub 30 10ker at Dartmouth and has been feeding him training tips. In general, a more serious team will be showing up to races and I think it will show.

As far as Wigton goes, apparently he has squared himself with eligibility and although I'm not a big fan of the whole paying back into eligibility thing(pulling a "Rupp") the NCAA set a precedent with Galen and now its basically a rule. Hes a good guy, as long as he followed the rules, its fine by me. Stupid rule, but it isn't my decision.
I think the Geneseo squad is going to look a lot like the SLU squad of recent years- still good up front, but not as deep as they have been in the past. Assuming nobody suffers any serious injuries, I think the team to beat right now is NYU, followed by Cortland.

What is all this talk about Cortland and other teams? Nally and Cloke are good runners, but look at NYU and TCNJ. NYU returns Abdallah (top 10 at nats) and Williams (might have been all american if he made it). They are a deep team with Mcgrane, Phillips and others and they always recruit talented freshmen. TCNJ won regionals last year and only lose 2 guys. They took 10th at nationals last year! Losing Randal and Zodda will hurt them, but they return Kopnicki and Guerriero, plus everyone else. They too always recruit talented freshmen. NYU and TCNJ will get the 2 automatic bids into nationals, no doubt about it. Maybe Cortland or Geneseo can get an at-large bid?

Andy Wigton graduated from Greece Athena in '02, was a very competitive runner, ran a very impressive indoor 9:03 3200 his senior year, made multiplpe appearances at NYS meets representing good ol' Section V. He went to NC state on a partial scholarship, left, went to UB for a while, left, and now is apparently going to be running for Brockport this season. I'm pretty sure he has at least one 30:XX 10k under his belt.
As far as redshirting goes, you are still allowed to redshirt in DIII, but only for medical purposes (ex: season ending injury before season starts) or academic purposes(ex: working at an out-of-town internship during the school year). I dunno what Cloke's situation was, but he definitely is running this year.
To me this shows why NYU is overrated (or just plain not a good XC team). If you have ten runners under 15:30 (with four close to 15 flat or under) and a top-10 finisher at nats, you should have no problem making nationals (and placing high) year-in and year-out. Instead, here are the team results from the last three years:
2005 - Did not qualify
2004 - 23rd
2003 - 21st
NYU is a great track team, and its runners have put up some great times, but year after year they've underperformed on the trails. Maybe this year will be different.
