This post is really about the maturity level of each poster. As the one poster said, he hated it at 15, but loved it at age 21. This was just maturity. Chariots of Fire is such a classic and well done movie, but it doesn't have any swearing, sex or gruesome murders, thus it is not a good movie to the majority of society. It is really sad as to what becomes blockbuster movies these days and movies that really say something like Chariots of Fire get ripped on by the above posters. To take two sprinters from a different era and really dig deep into their psyches to see what makes them tick is just fascinating. Two quotes from each sprinter in the movie are my two favorite quotes from a running movie. Eric Liddell(spelling?) runs to glorify God and his sister doesn't think he should be running and should go to work in China doing God's work. He tells her "I feel God made me for a purpose, for China, but he also made me fast, and when I run I feel his pleasure". Harold Abrahms(spelling?) runs for a very different reason, for his anger at prejudice towards Jewish people. He wants to prove himself worthy. After he gets beat in a race his girlfriend tells him "if you can't take a beating" and Harold replies "I don't run to take beatings, I run to win, and if I can't win I won't run". Classic stuff with an actual plot. Two very different people with two very different reasons to run, but both become Olympic champions. Add in all the subplots of whether Harold should be allowed to have a professional coach or that Eric won't run on the Sabbath and he has to change his event from the 100 to the 400 which was probably his better event anyways. It really comes down to what you want to get out of a movie and in todays society it is not about the plot or having you leaving a movie really thinking about what you just saw. As I said before, if it doesn't have sex, violence and foul language, the majority of people will find in boring. I will give the classic pop psychology response to that; if you find this movie boring, maybe you are are a boring person.
