Listen I have no quarrel with you. Good luck on the 17th. You will line up in a corral with people with similar qualifying times. Run well. Your passion for the race is a good thing. I have less worry about the marathon's future viability in attracting elite runners and being the standard event to reach for an athlete. If you haven't seen this story, it hopes to improve on marathon competitiveness.

You haven't indicated if you've read Tom's book. If not, it's worth the read. He has autographed them at the expo in the past, so you get to chat a bit as well.
My first Boston was in '77. Canadian Jerome Drayton, the winner, bashed the BAA for not offering water, or any amenities, on a hot day. In those days you relied on the kindness of the spectators, which was great, unless it was the first time they used the garden hose that year! He was demonized by the powers that be for trying to change the tradition. Vilified really. "You can't compromise the amateurism of the event" declared the traditionalists.
I think Boston will be ok for a while, and again, lets hope for 50 degrees and cloudy.
