I have only been taking xl for a little over a week, but I'm wondering if the agitation I am experiencing is from the new med or just from ending my brief relationship with lexapro?? I feel hot tempered and quick to criticise. I have always been a coffee drinker, but am wondering now about the connection. I am a reader and can't concentrate enough to sit down with a book. I also write, but can't get the focus the process requires. Also how long must I wait before full effect sets in??
Similar story here, I took Zoloft for ~18 months for anxiety. It did what it was supposed to do, I would also echo your sentiments regarding tapering when it is time to come off of the drugs. I felt really "bad" (creepies, skin crawling, "electric shocks", minor waves of anxiety) - every time I took a step down, which subsided after a day or so. Med free now for 4 years.

Why did you come off of Lexapro? I just started on it and was wondering if Wellbutrin would be better. Yours is the second post referring to shortened temper though. Don't think I would want to deal with that.
I don't think the short temper being magnified happens to everyone who takes Wellbutrin, just if you were prone to that before taking it. Then it might be magnified. Just a theory..
are anti-depressants (the stimulant family) consiered banned substances in athletics?
shameless bump...
anyone have more imput on wellbutrin/Zoloft/lexapro/prozac/other anti-depressants.
after much ambivalence, i finally decided to try Lexapro. so far, no difference in my anxiety levels, but it has only been 10 days, so i'm not too surprised.
i'm doing the therapy route also; research shows that the combo of meds/therapy seems to work best for depression, so i'm thinking maybe it will work for generalized anxiety disorder, too.
if i don't get serious replies to the post, i will assume the meds are working so well that people have left the letsrun board and are leading active lifes now. lol... just kidding.
I can let you know in a few weeks in terms of Wellbutrin, more accurately in a few months. I switched about 6 weeks ago and am just now getting back into running thanks to injury.
i am on Bupropion, which is similar to wellbutrin, for about 2 weeks now as well as seeing a therapist. I have struggled with depression and anxiety for as long as i can remember. I always thought i would never resort to drugs, believing I could just focus more and fix things myself. After several problems with jobs, relationships, and life in general my girlfriend convinced me to get help. Side effects so far...ive noticed the dehydration(probably due to sweating) I also was a bit moody at first, but I feel better and better each day. Sleep was hard at first, but better now, no loss of sexual desire so far. No loss of appetite either. I havent been able to run for more than a few months at a time for the last 10 years, so I am curious to see if that changes.
Does wellbutrin dosage help if symptoms lessen or highten?like 150mg to 300mg or 300mg to 150mg?thanks

What is your dosage of Lexapro?
My doc started me off on 10mg about 4 1/2 weeks ago. I didn't see a big difference at first, but I also didn't see any serious side affects. After talking with my doc he increased the dosage to 20mg and after a couple of days I can say I started to feel like my old self again. I am seeing a counselor also, as you said this is a very important part of therapy. Although I am taking Lexapro for depression it sounds as if you are having a similiar experience. If you started on 10mg give it some time and think about increasing to 20mg.
Good Luck.
Been taking lexapro for about 8 months for anxiety. Started at 10mg, then went up to 20mg after about 9 weeks. It took a while before it started working, but it did and definitely helped. No real side effects, though it was hard to tell if their were any intial ones becuase my anxiety symptoms were so rough.
Also be sure to do the behavioral stuff. The meds will only get you so far, but you have to develop strategies to deal with the anxiety. I posted this on another thread, but positive self-talk, thought-blocking and breathing techniques all helped me quite a bit.
I wish you the best in dealing with this issue. It's certainly no fun at all, but it is something that you will get through.
ps-- I've seen no effect on my running or drive to run since taking the med. In fact, taking the meds reduced my anxiety and made it possible for me to get back to running.
bump
is 150mg a lot?

A lot of what?
What drug?
i needed to bump this because I recently started up on 150mg of wellbutrin and have noticed changes in running. I felt bad running and just ran with my heart rate monitor and saw it go up to 175 running my normal slow pace. Then after the run it stayed at 130 for a long time which is what I use to do my slow runs at. I have been taking it easy but do I need to take it very easy until I get use to the medicine? i am feeling better, just not running.
Did you start at 150? I started on 75mg of Wellbutrin last week and am upping to 150 tomorrow. If anything, 75mg had a positive impact on my running- just from feeling better in general.
I am in my second day of taking welbutrion. A therapist gave me a RX for it over a year ago but I was thinking I could handle it on my own. After reading this thread and seeing my friends life change for the better I decided to try it. Thanks for sharing this.
this is a wonder med.just stay positive
