If you were alive when Secretariat was at his peak, 2:xx races didn't diminish the excitement. Michael Phelps was popular for years, swimming for about one minute, give or take some.
Nah, he just doesn't show up, then. Say what you will about JI, but he's a baller who shows up and puts on a show and has got us all talking, either rooting for him or hating on him. He has better PRs than Kerr and for now the only Olympic gold of the two (despite being younger). He's the primary mover here and Josh as of now is reflecting off of Jakob's star power.
Kerr is such a clown. He overreacted to the “next guy” thing and then spent the entire summer belittling Ingebrigtsen in podcasts and interviews. There’s nothing noble about letting your results speak for themselves after months of running your mouth.
I think the weirdest thing going on here is one person has made three separate pro-Jakob/anti-kerr posts intending them to appear as being from three different people.
Go touch grass buddy, we're all here to enjoy watching our guy race.

Lol? Who would the other three people be buddy? I’d love to know.

I made all the posts in this thread. In fact, all the posts on this forum are mine. Every time you post here you're talking to me and only me.
Do you think Kerr would feign illness either before or after getting beaten? Maybe I missed all the times he made excuses for losing before Budapest?
His 2022 season was very bad and he’s made many explanations (eg excuses) for it. Olympic hangover, lack of motivation, bad diet, illness (for DFL Comm Games race). He waited a while to do so, but it still happened.

He didn't cry about it immediately after his races and claim his competitors are a nonfactor. They all spin stuff in their heads, but stealing the spotlight from those who beat you when they earned their win is beneath Kerr's class. I love to watch Jakob and the performance of these 2 over the years is not comparable. But it sure is fun to watch a grade A narcissist like Jakob get beaten and then mentally unravel. I don’t think he has learned from Budapest. Can't wait to see how Jakob mentally handles this summer.

How is coming back days later, clearly still under the weather and yet still winning gold at 5000 meters "unraveling"?
Sorry he was a big meanie and dismissive of Josh. Boo-hoo.
Kerr tanked his 1600m leg in the dmr (4:20) in 2018 so that he could be fresh for the mile final. Absolutely disgusting. This is the kind of person Kerr is. If you think ingebrigtsen is full of himself, go hang out with this guy (or even worse depend on him), and you’ll see a new meaning to that. Great runner, but Kerr cares only about Kerr.

Saying he had an Olympic hangover, lack of motivation, and bad diet wasn't even remotely an excuse, it was self accountability, and an admission that he wasn't as fit as the other guys.

So you want Jakob to lie I guess? Pretend like he thinks he lost for reasons he doesn’t actually believe? Kerr said nothing or avoided telling the truth in 2022, and we finally heard that it was all those things in August 2023. And public self-accountability feels a lot more meaningful if you learn about it as it’s happening as opposed to a full year later. Also you’re projecting that Kerr’s blaming his own lack of discipline is gracious to his competitors. He never said here’s why I stunk in 2022, but even my best self couldn’t have beaten Wightman or Jakob. He’s just as much thinking he should’ve won and dismissing his competitors as Jakob. And I have no problem with not being PC. I find the “dont make excuses/just tip your cap” and then wait til a year later crap dumb and insulting to fans.

This seems like a response to other posts and not mine, you've attributed lots of arguments to me that I didn't make. My point is that there's a pretty clear difference between saying "these are the reasons I wasn't in good shape last year" and "that loss doesn't count because I was sick".
I enjoy watching both runners compete, and don't care who wins. This isn't team Edward vs team Jacob. My only rooting interest is against dumb logic and strawman argument.

He never said the loss doesn’t count. He actually in the moment explained why he wasn’t in shape to win the race. Which he believed was sickness. Anyone interpreting it as “the loss doesn’t count” is looking to get upset over a guy simply explaining what he thinks happened. You can’t put words in his mouth and weird inferences from his comments and then talk about dumb logic. There’s some big rush to act like Jakob can’t admit when he’s lost, when in 2022 he literally owned up to screwing up the tactics and costing himself the race.

What Jakob or any one else says about a race counts for nothing. It's who crosses the line first. Nothing Ingebrigtsen says changes any of that. What he or any other runner says tells us only about their character - nothing else - and matters only to fans who idolize their heroes.
