Last year, 5 Brits broke 3:32.00 in the 1500. THree of them haven't raced at all in 2023 -
Neil Gourley, Elliot Giles, and Matthew Stonier? What's up with them?
Additionally .Jake Hayward, who ran 3:31.08 in 2022, hasn't raced in 2023 or 2024.

Some times one has to learn to be humble.
Matthew Stonier has been injured and only recently returned to training.
Don't know about Jake Hayward. Everybody here seems to have forgotten him.
Best guesses/based on IG activity:
Giles - Upping mileage training in South Africa (altitude) ~ building up training in Olympic year, skipped indoors intentionally
Stonier - Returning to training in South Africa (altitude) ~ was injured after going to South Africa to train, but has been back for at least 5 weeks
Heyward - Hasn't returned to training, or barely has (seriously injured)
Gourley - Returning to training in Flagstaff ~ was injured
In order of optimism, I'd go Giles (seems planned), Stonier (young, raced decently in December in XC, back working), Gourley (seems like a lot of setbacks) and then last Heyward (seems like a really rough bout of injuries that he isn't over)
Typically they don’t open up the season until late May, with either a meet in Central Europe or the US, depending on where they are based and training.
- Stonier. Had a stress fracture after medalling at euro u23 cross. Just started up and posts everything on Strava. He tore his Achilles in feb last year and still had a good season so don’t write him off.
- Giles. As is always the case with him is up and down with injuries. He has been posting everything on YouTube and seems to be rounding into good shape and is set to race soon.
- Not sure on Heyward. Probably the biggest British talent when healthy. Was in South Africa and still coached by Rowland as far as I know.
- Gourley. Rushed back into training to make Glasgow from an injury and reinjured. Is back sessioning according to IG.
Agreed. I think Rojo may be slightly biased being American based where people are ripping fast times already.
we know that it ain't because they are spending time at the dentist
It’s April you t*t . Ask again if they haven’t raced by June.
