Hi everyone!
A couple of friends and I have for a couple of years discussed how awesome it would be to be able to create private leagues with multiple segments and overall leaderboards in Strava. But it seems like that will never happen... So we used the last couple of months to create Strava on steroids. Not really, but an alternative for active runners and cyclists who love racing as much as we do! You can easily create time-specific private leagues for you and your friends, or public leagues for everyone to join!

The great thing about the concept is that it takes several segments into consideration for the overall leaderboard, which makes it super fun to race between different runner types as well!

Because of the limitations that Strava set for its API, we have created an all-new segment motor ourselves, so upload any activity of yours and draw your favorite segments to race. The solution supports auto syncing from Garmin Connect, Polar, Suunto and Wahoo.

Thanks for asking, Strava limit the use of their segment API for applications that use the segments for contests and racing - it would be great to be avle to use their segment motor, but because of their limitation we had to make it ourselves :-)

Why would someone use this over Strava segments? If you’re competing with your friends, can’t you just look at where you all stand on the global Strava leaderboard..?

Thanks for your reaponse! Yes, you could do that with Strava, but not get overall standings for several segments. And there are no functionality to support users creating their own time framed contests with multiple of their favourite segments! That’s the goal of HurryUp :-)

Hopefully you are ok with this being a fun side project. Getting users to use your app will be a major uphill battle. Building clones of Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TicToc are actually not that difficult. Getting critical mass of people using your clone is almost impossible. Strava has free mode that is super functional for most people and includes all your existing friends which makes it very ‘sticky’ and will be hard to compete with. What you are offering is definitely an advanced feature that is mostly only appealing to hard core users. There is also nothing stopping Strava from just adding this if you become a minor threat.

Don’t get me wrong, hope you succeed. There should be more competition in this space.
