Hello, everyone. I'm a competitive ballroom dancer who runs primarily to support my Latin ballroom dancing. A dance comp consists of multiple rounds (usually 2 to 3 rounds, depending on the comp) of roughly 10 minutes dancing. Five dances are danced, each lasting 60 to 80 seconds, and there are about 8 to 10 seconds between each dance. Because in Latin ballroom we use virtually every muscle in our body (from ankles to thighs to hips and ribcage area), a round is very tiring, feels similar to running 400s back-to-back, and we need to learn to maintain energy output throughout the ten minutes without tensing up. Although there is time between rounds, the very least ten minutes but often hours, there is also the matter of avoiding getting depleted after the first round, both physically and mentally. I'm looking for some advice on what kind of running would aid my dance comp prep the most. I have never run long distances, genetically I'm more of a sprinter than a long-distance runner (in fact, I came to the US on an athletic scholarship as a sprinter), nor do I think running hours would benefit my dancing much. But I'm hoping there is some kind of running that would benefit me, I just don't know much about running outside of sprint training. Thank you in advance for your thoughts.
