Greggory Allman
Paul Weller
Mick Hucknall
Weller has been a truly great artist with surprises at multiple stages of his career, but nobody has ever confused him for a truly great vocalist.
Yes
Dylan? Springsteen? Yeah , probably not
Rick Astley
I do like a couple of his songs, but being a good person is more important, and he was reportedly always an a$$hole to other musicians, and he has turned into a nutbar conspiracy theorist in his older years.
I'd say Bobby Caldwell is more clearly R&B, so I'd pick him over Morrison.
Some put The Bee Gees in the R&B category too, and while that's debateable, if it's agreed that they fit there, I'd pick them over Morrison also.
There are a LOT of "reaction" videos out there where young black people thought The Bee Gees were black. Here's one:
This one made me laugh to be fair
Who are these people yall mentioned?
Of course Van Morrison is the best. Listen to the Lion on the It's too Late to Stop now album, Caravan from The Last Waltz, Tupelo Honey with Pee Wee Ellis sax solo, and Comfortly Numb at the Berlin Wall are some of the greatest live vocal performances ever, and all on YouTube.
I cannot hold him being grumpy against him. On the contrary there are a couple funny stories from it so that is a plus in my book!
His politics and other issues? I do not agree with him at all but I have never been the person to that it is immoral to listen to some music because of the person who made it. Sure if someone did something particularly bad then it may make me feel disgusted listening to their music but that would just be my visceral reaction not a statement of morality. If the music is good it is good; I do not really care about Van Morrison's politics. Even so, I must emphasize that I do not think he is an anti-semite despite songs like "they own the media" and "they sold me out (for a few shekels)". I do believe these were just unfortunate choices of words and he clarified as much in a youtube video.
Bobby Caldwell? I do not think he had the creative ability of Van even close.
BeeGees? Thats like defining David Bowie by his 80s period. I think they are more respected for their earlier stuff
Elvis
Yes, Elvis
A Mess Of Blues (New Sound Remastered) (youtube.com)
You mean, earlier stuff like this?
Al Green called it "one of the most soulful songs ever written by white guys."
Or like this song? (Originally written for Otis Redding. Otis passed away before he got a chance to record it.)
I can’t go for that
Van Morrison SUCKS.
Nasal, whiny, Irish garbage.
imo😁
Joe Cocker?
aha is that a hall and oates reference? genuinely love that song
