They get to plan so there will be a couple top 400-800 guys that are just going to push as fast as they can for that distance this guy would need to open up with a ~75 second 400, into a ~2:20-2:30 mile, probably be close to or sub 5 mile, keep up to a low 17 5k, run a fast half, then hold on for at least a sub 3 marathon and still be able to keep a reasonable pace for 21 more hours. An 18 min 5k guy doesn't need to catch you, he just needs to wear you down so a 38 min 10k guy can keep close enough so a 1:25 half guy can wear you out so you are exhausted at the end of a 3hr marathon so some walk joggers can catch 60 miles in at 20 hours.
And they only have to catch you once, then you are done. The top ~20 or so will probably coordinate and 98% of the chase pack can just go home and wait for the check to clear.
