Speaking before London Bekele said he was confident he could still run faster as a master given that he knows of athletes still running fast over 40. This implies that the ages of some elites are quite a bit older than they say. Could he be talking about anyone other than Eliud?
His quote was roughly “I know age of some athletes even not under 40 who performing well…I predict their age maybe they are not less than 40”
Mr Renato Canova. I would like to hear your thoughts when it comes to age if possible please?
You mentioned in a previous thread or discussion that 35 is a good age for the Marathon as the ability to cope with the mileage and aerobic load is more developed by this point, and also mentality to endure the training required, can you extend this?
Would you say that 30-40 is the peak age for the Marathon, how about other events such as the 5k and 10k?
Do you beleive the era of the super shoes have allowed older athletes to extend their careers?
A lot of athletes from the 60s to the 90s finished their careers in their late 20's. I feel we may have been robbed of some performances by them.
I believe he’s referring to his arch nemesis on road, the 54-year old Kipchoge.
Kipchoge is not 54 years old. He graduated from the same HS than Bernard Lagat, but 5 years after Lagat.
Lagat is only 49 an will turn 50 in December.
Only 5 years later than Lagat? More info is needed about that. Is there a graduation yearbook?
"Kaptel High School was established in 1968 in Emgwen constituency, Kaptel Sub-location in Nandi County. The first students were village boys who spent most of their days hawking milk. Nicknamed The ‘Blue School’, it went on to help shine the light of knowledge on these young souls. In 2009, the school received a much-needed facelift; the government built dormitories, laboratories and classrooms. This was a much-needed jab especially for boys who had to trek or ride bicycles to and from school. Impassable roads and rugged steep terrain which got worse whenever it rained. This made learning a daunting task for the students. Notable alumni guided by the school motto 'Strive to Excel' include 2018 Berlin Marathon winner and world record holder Eliud Kipchoge. Surprisingly, Kipchoge never went beyond zonal school games competitions and often took to hawking milk in Kapsabet town, 60 kilometres away on a bicycle."
