Historically, Idaho District III has always provided an awesome opportunity for the slower runners. These runners fail to make big invites, and overall get less opportunities to race without a state meet.
This year, breaking the tradition, teams will no longer be allowed to enter everyone on their team who didn't qualify for varsity districts. Instead, the top 3 in each event per team will get auto accepted, and 9 additional runners between the 13 teams in the district will qualify off of PR's.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. There is no good reason to deny up to several hundreds of kids one last official opportunity to end their season/career.
Teams like Boise and Rocky Mountain will be hurt the most by this, as they are incredibly deep, but even smaller teams unknown outside of Idaho, such as Centennial or Timberline will feel the pain.
It's a stupid decision made by self-absorbed coaches and officials who care little for anyone who isn't considered fast and only want to save themselves a couple hours on meet day.
