What times are getting scholarships from TCU, specifically mile, 3200 and 800
None - All Walk-ons. Sprint Jump school
no wonder they suck
12.6 scholarships...and depth gets you nothing. Scholarships have to score in track, especially for men.
Instead of going against OK State, BYU, Colorado, Cincinnati, Iowa State and the odd distance runner from somewhere else they invest in sprints/jumps. Is what it is.
If you are BIG12 scholarship level distance runner you probably don't go to TCU.
If you run 9:10 in the 3200m they would probably love to have you bolster their XC team. But don't expect to get paid just because you may be top 5 in the program. It will be based on conference track standings.
if you are scholarship hunting, they explained why poor choice.
HOWEVER
if you check out the TFRRS, the back end of their 1500/5k times are doable, not much better than D3, and they've had one guy run one meet at steeple.
which if you can get academic aid and don't mind walking on, makes it a counter-intuitive they zig you zag way to chase a D1. if you have the times.
now if you want the honor, money, roster security of a scholarship, someplace else. if you are good enough you have options and offers, probably someplace else.
personally i went by school quality and fit. long as i felt wanted and roster-secure, scholarship was an afterthought and really just looked at within aid package comparison. what is my drive-out to attend. if they want you running and they cover more cost than the next schools, what do i care about scholarship. but if you are amazing, by all means, start the bidding war, though you want to like the place you end up.
If only they were good in those events. They used to be a sprint school but now they just suck all around. Their distance program has never been even a little bit competitive.
what about other power 5 schools.
Iowa , Nebraska all seem to have fairly noncompetitive distance guys for the big 10
and Texas tech, kansas state, Baylor, Houston, all seem very uncompetitive for big 12
and in the sec you got south Carolina, Mississippi state and vanderbilt
Iowa scored 16 in 5k/10k last year.
?? Texas tech just won the indoor title
Nebraska is a highly competitive men's team...in track and field. Scholarships are heavily and effectively concentrated in the field events. They have solid sprinters who score very well in the relays and are somewhat competitive in hurdles and open races.
Their distance is a non factor in the Big 10. Don't think they had any points in indoor or in indoor or outdoor last year.
Programs like this typically try to get buy in from local walk ons. If you pull the most talented kids in the state and foster a positive environment you can make a reasonably decent XC team. You might even get a point scorer on the track every once and awhile.
Don’t understand why as someone who is at a D3 performance level you would want to run in power-conference D1. What is fun about getting blown away in your races or being the guy the coaches give a mercy-seat on the bus (but never to the conference championship or any meet that matters)?
is it just to wear the t shirt and hope people mistakenly over-estimate your prestige?
Are saying that if you run 14:30 at Iowa or Nebraska are an instate kid, it doesn't make sense to pay.less than $100K for a decent education at the school that you and your family have been life long fans of? You also get to receive a B10.ring or two. You get attend B10 sporting events. Why the heck would you rather attend a D3 school?
their sprinters are top level but after the 800m they fall off
