Looking for some advice on preparing for a marathon in 8 weeks.
I was an elite level rugby player and have a broad fitness background since I was young. I’m 22 and just signed up to a marathon in two months time because my friends are running it too. I’ve run a couple marathons before but have let my long distance running go over the past 8 months or so and have only been running short distances.
Some of my PRs which were all set in the last 12-18 months.
5km - 17:00
10km - 35:20
Half Mary - 1:18
Full Mara - 2:56
Wondering whether I just go hard and get some big mileage (60-70 mpw) until one week from the race then rest. Or whether I just accept I’ve left it too late to acclimate to marathon distance and just do a couple long runs leading up to it.
Hoping to go well under 3 hours. Any advice would be appreciated.
