Wait you’re saying the best 10k runner ever would beat a 3k/5k guy? Tbh I don’t even think Jakob could out kick Bekele in a 5k if Lagat couldn’t
I think he means current 41 year old Bekele could beat Jakob at 10k based on “You never lose it,” which of course is silly and wrong. Bekele in his prime beats Jakob at 10k no matter how many times Jakob says his best distance is the half marathon in interviews, IMO. At the same time, the poster who said that Jakob could run Bekele’s current 10k pace for half marathon probably isn’t that far from the truth: something in the range of 27:40 10k for Bekele/58:23 half for Jakob (same pace) seems reasonable.
I am as close to the truth as it gets, indeed mine wasn't a hype claim. I love Kenenisa and the fact that he's still competing, but there is no way he has a 27:30 in his legs now. Just look at Mo trying to qualify for Tokyo while training specifically for the distance. So I did crunch the numbers (almost exactly those in the quoted message) before posting, and the only caveat here his how much trust should one put in Jakob recently claiming the half would be his best event. Maybe I don't believe that now, but I definitely believe he can run sub 58:30

Will 3 international losses in a row teach J I fans?

Jakob’s range doesn’t include the 1500m? He is the 4th fast performer in history at the distance and won a gold medal.
If J Ingebrigtsen loses three international 1500m races in a row, will J I fanatics finally learn? Timothy C, most recent Olympic 1500m final, still had F.O.T.M.S. or Fear of Taoufik Makhloufi Syndrome. Global 1500m runners still haven't all received memo: DO NOT HELP J INGEBRIGTSEN WITH PACE, FIRST 1200M. If all elite 1500m men lay off the pace, first 1000m, J Ingebrigtsen won't win, 1500m gold.
I don’t quite catch your point here, since Jakob certainly did beat the “flying Barega” in this race…
Yeah that was an all-time great u20 5K. Aside from the likely overage race winner (Zakayo), bunch of huge talents. I wouldn’t really downgrade anybody for their performance there.
The same year Barega run 12min 55? this being already 5000m U20 world champion from the previous version.
Next year he run 12mins 43
The following year (2019) he completely ridiculised him and showed him some humility in the final Doha.
Yes, the same Barega. -The future Olympic champion (10000m) -a stellar runner then and a stellar runner now. -The last few months he has done a 57.50 half marathon and a 7.25 3000m indoors…
And the Doha race: Yes, he showed him some humility… (We all need to be showed that sometimes).
