Hi all, I've been running more or less consistently for about a year (20ish miles per week on average) with 1 half marathon done at 2 hours last Summer.
Today I ran a 5k time trial and got depressed with my result of 24:45 (granted I am at 8,660 feet here in Bogota, Colombia and will likely be a minute faster at sea level).
I want to take running seriously and actually become an average runner for my age, one day hitting the mediocre target of 20 min 5k. Once I reach this milestone, I'll move on to focusing on half marathon training.
I have started doing 2 speed workouts a week along with 2 easy runs and a long run of around 9 miles. Based off my slow ass 5k time, would I be better off sticking with 1 speed workout a week and then trying to slowly bump up mileage? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
