i live in an area with a bigger racing scene between all road races and track meets. I would like to participate in the races as they come but as an adult, there is not really a sharply defined season for me. So there may be a road mile here and a 5k there and then a half. I've been trying to approach this by basically trying to focus on aerobic running (10k to marathon pace) workouts for most of the year and then try to pair with easier mile pace (200s, 300s or hills) for turnover.
I also participate in a running club and do some of their workouts, so i'll definitely do bigger mile pace / vo2max workouts in bursts when there's a bigger focus race(s) coming up. In my experience, I noticed the club runners who show up to the track workouts religiously seem to plateau mid season anyway, so i'm thinking my approach is actually a pretty solid one, since it's almost like going through cycles of base training / sharpening, although there aren't too many big "peaks" since there's not like a conference or regional meet per se.
Wondering if anyone else tries to do this and their experiences
