…so you assume this captain was given the position with motives other than qualifications? What are we talking about here as it relates to this accident?
Yes it could be a Begginer just learning how to steer a boat, we will see, but I think it is someone new to guiding ships, it is different then driving a car as being a Pilot on a Plane, accidents happen when people are new to something, but it will be fixed and The Bridge will be better than it ever was, That is American Exceptionalism always improving on what was done before, They Will make the New Bridge something everyone can be proud of.
The crew are all Indian, while the pilot(s) are locals who guide the ship to and from the port through the area. They are qualified by the Maryland Pilots Association.
"Pilots are selected in a fair and competitive process; open to anyone…the State Board of Pilots is required by statute to select the best applicant. In fact, Maryland was the first pilot association to have an African-American Pilot and the second to have a female Pilot."

OMG there might have been a woman and/or a black man steering the ship!! THAT'S why it crashed!!
I see a lot of hand waving, but no actual numbers except how big the ship is. Which alone hardly argues for collision being an acceptable risk over time.
Port commerce is seriously set back. Was that included in the CBA? This was critical infrastructure, not just any old bridge.
Would bridges be crumbling so fast if they had been built stronger? When they were built, did the CBA not figure in future maintenance?
