pretty crystal clear: "A student who is a member of a MHSAA school team shall not participate in any manner in any event in a meet or a contest as an unattached contestant against a high school team, a junior high school team, a collegiate team, a club team or other unattached individuals in that same sport. One individual shall constitute a team in indoor and outdoor track and field."
i get he might have innocently gone and run a race and not realized the implications for how he did it. but i would have looked it up first. we had a few guys off my select also on our HS team together. we make state playoffs. but we're supposed to play dallas cup with our select and miss school a week at a point during the HS playoffs. can we go back and forth between school and select all week? can we miss school then play HS games if we can get back and forth in time?
so, we checked the rule book. the nice version is it's naive to not do so. harsher is it's arrogant. you didn't worry or bother to check if it affects eligibility? the coach didn't think about this? where i grew up you only got so many meets per team per year before state, and so the would have gotten you there for busting your quota.
check the rules.
