Agree. Harrison dropped out after what looked like a pacing effort. From 4:01 as a 16 yr old HS sophomore to stagnation. All these guys go to Oregon and fall off the radar screen. It really seems that way. Something is wrong with that coach and that program. Anyone could certainly say that Oregon has declined.
And no talk about Burns disappearing, or Archie Noakes who people don’t know because he’s Australian but should have expectations up there with those guys
Harrison's time is #11 U20 U.S. not 7. Might be #7 performer?
Jerry has coaxed great performances out of runners after injury, but many fell back into the injury cycle as well. The most successful version of this is Evan Jager whom many thought would never be able to get healthy. The antithesis of this would be Withrow and Derrick who had been tanks early in their careers and eventually went the other way once they started running Badger miles . The halcyon days of the early 00s brought in the cream of the US senior classes to Madison. Many fell by the way side, but Jager, Teg, and Solinsky all got splendid results. Many are called, but few can survive. The current team is like the team that had Tim Keller, Bobby Lockhart, Withrow, Spiker, Teg, Solinsky and other champion preps. We do not know who will step up, but given history some will achieve great things and others will become coaches. Their great rivals had Stember, Jennings, Sage, Luchini, Hall, and more and won NCAA's with one of the lowest point totals, but really only Hall had much influence on elite running after college. It is a tough sport and the ability to survive hard training and stay healthy and mentally tough are up there with talent as must-haves to be elite for more than a few years.
So because a system has produced good results for few out of many in the past, it is not a flawed system... in spite of the fact that there are other programs which don't break down their athletes and also have strong results. Jerry is overrated as hell.
It is just to say that some of these current Oregon guys will survive and be great and others will end up coaching or working for Nike. There must be a better system, but enough numbers and some will be champions and some will be German Fernandez. I hope that someone can guide Valby to a different endpoint despite the fragility of the athlete.
biggest mistake Archie made was decomitting from Wisconsin.

Rheinhardt can at least be competitive in some of the local races in the Jacksonville area like the Gate River Run. He'll need to stick to running in Duval and St John's County where he is the fastest person.

German Fernandez is a champion of the NCAA 1500m.
