That's because they are using my ebike-cam as the "rabbit"! What I noticed is that alot of these elite runners get really annoyed that someone is in front of them so they try to catch up to my bikecam. But as they speed up, I speed up. Win:Win. But realistically, who knows?
It isn't that new. They have been churning out elite runners for a few years. There recent senior classes have included:
2021: Joshua Schuld 8:56.34 Zeid Hussain 9:01.53
2022:
Christopher Keyler 9:34.75
2023 Zachary Blum 9:16.79 Maxim Sorokin 9:39.62
Their XC teams never quite had a strong 5 before, but if you have been watching their track times, generating top-end talent didn't come out of nowhere. Now they just have more depth.
But the thing is, last year was the first time they ever made state. This year they will likely make their first NXN appearance if they keep up the performance they had today
Beckman has been an up and coming team since there coach took over at the start of the pandemic. He has established himself as one of the best coaches in California and develops kids very well. He notably had no prior running experience b4 taking over as he was a wrestling coach.

One of my current friends and teammates went there, graduated recently. I don't know very much about all the specific details but from what he's told me, the coach is very involved, hands on in the workouts, passionate about the sport and goes to coaching clinics to learn about the scientific side of the training so he can back up his knowledge on the why and how. He seems to really care about putting in his 100% towards developing the team and as we can tell that goes a long way.
I was really impressed by the sheer depth of their team last year and this year in XC, but also by Ibzan Felix who really stood out in partciular during last track season. He showed great closing speed in all of his races: 8:47 at Arcadia, sub 4:10 several times including a 4:08 at the TEN closing in 2:00 the last 800, and 4:09 at the CIF masters meet to beat out Fast Horse and Jason Parra. Excited to keep an eye on him and see how he does over at Cal Poly, great miler but I can see him leaning more into the 5k in college

That’s great to hear that California has a new coach like this. Great for the state.
The state lost two big-time high school coaches Soles and Brosnan, and California fans started to worry about whether the state has a competitive program anymore especially after seeing zero California teams ranked nationally.

There are some elite HS teams where people do well in HS but none of them do much in college. If Felix is successful in college, Beckman won’t be one of those teams
i have not met the coach personally, but i've only heard good things about him. worth noting is that it's become the district "destination" school with 2 district transfers, nguyen (tustin transfer from last year) and horrocks (foothill transfer this year)...

I heard that Oakdale’s coach was a wrestler growing up too.
And former Great Oak (now Herriman UT) coach was never a distance runner growing up. He was a top tier sprinter. New Great Oak coach is kind of the opposite. She is a long-time marathoner, but she has never been a coach of anything before she took the GO XC coaching job. She is a long-time physics teacher

Yeah our coach at Oakdale was a runner and wrestler for another local school Escalon. He ran about 16 flat at Woodward park and 9:20 in the 3200. He was a 2 time xc section champion, track section champion in the 3200, and wrestling section champion in the 112 division. We're lucky he chose to coach xc over wrestling. When he came to Oakdale our wrestling team was definitely more impressive than our xc team.
