Is Tuohy Done?

March is here. That makes it 10 months since Tuohy beat Valby. But you are correct that the streak will grow to be much longer. I hope Tuohy is okay. Valby sure is.

Its very common for people to go on good winning runs and never be seen again. Tuohy should be glad at what she had. But anyone with a brain knew she was never good for any sustained top level success. The American system makes dealing with it all worse because they really amplify all the hype so much. They love feeding children to the wolves in that country

I don't understand US racing programmes and athlete development. They run their athletes too often and train them too hard as teenagers and then when they come to their main development phase aged 20 -22, they are done.

Tuohy is a similar athlete in age to the Scottish/British athlete Megan Keith in terms of their 5000m times. Yet Keith is targeting the World Cross Country Championships and has already run a low 31 minute road 10k in Valencia this year, and been to the Senior World Championships in the 5000m last year.

Meanwhile, Tuohy doesn't seem to have a race programme which involves peaking for championships, and neither does Valby. Why aren't they at the World Indoors instead of racing in obscure national meets seeking reasonable times? Or targeting the World Cross? At least Wiley was there, though she didn't make the final, she will have gained invaluable experience.

Valby raced once in December and didn't race again for 10 weeks. She wasn't fast enough to go pro out of high school so she took a $300K scholarship from her university. She is obligated to perform for them while she continues to be paid by them. Tuohy went pro and hasn't raced since. She is not over racing. You claimed that they race too often but neither of these two have raced too often. Both are targeting making the US team in June.

Her BF is from NC, and now she is buying a house by her college. If that makes her happy, great.

But doubling down on NC state as a pro instead of moving to Flagstaff, which would bring her more success, may not be the best for her running career. How many successful pros train in Raleigh? Maybe she will be the first.

Huh? How about we let her career start before we determine whether her career is successful or not? Tell us again why she won't have a career like Monson or Cranny?

Also, when you smugly blather abot top level success, you do know that this is not an actual sport? Outside of the top sprinters, it is a drab, dispiriting joke where so-called athletes with no self-respect or dignity take peds to run fast, poisoning themselves for little money in the most low rent manner possible. It is a chemistry experiment pretending to be a sport. Of course the top sprinters are doping to the gills too, but at least they get some compensation.

astro, I've been a big Tuohy fan over the last few years too, but I think it may be time to face the music. It's been too quiet on her front for too long. No races in almost a year. Hopefully she's moving on to something that still brings her joy.

Why so defensive?

The poster never said a peep about being more successful than Touhy as a runner. Almost none of us here, including you, aren’t as successful as her when it comes to running.

Huh? She finished XC in November. Anyway...LOL. Her last track race was finishing 7th at US nationals. Seems on track to me. Injuries can always derail things, but this concern is silliness.

Interesting. You blast high school girls who run fast times claiming their careers are over. But now we are suppossed to give professionals time to develop when 17 year olds are done according to you.

my calendar must be wrong cuz I swear I saw her in NCAA XC Nationals in November. Someone said she got beat by Valby I think, among others. I think they call that a race.

Remember back when she was the top runner in the NCAA? That was already a year ago.

That's right, stick a fork in her....I also recall Fisher was not the top distance guy as he lost to McDonald multiple times. And Monson lost to Kelati a few times.....I guess we need a few forks, or do you recycle them?
