Long / Cernansky / Day / Ricchuti all sub-9. Smith 9:00
Wow, Charles Guerrera gave Gabelman a close race in the 1600. I wonder if that factored into his 6th place 3200m.
Probably. Gabelman also ran the anchor of the DMR the day before in meet-record fashion. It looks like he ran that 1600m leg in 4:09/4:10. He already had two very solid 1600m runs in his legs.
Using the 1600m at the state meet last June as a starting point, it has been nice to see Connor Long's progression this year. NW Ohio represent. He is a serious contender for the 1600m and 3200m state titles this year.
After being the top sophomore in that race, I was wondering how Charlie Vause would do in his junior year. I was definitely anticipating a big junior year from him and was looking for his results.
And then the results never came in. Cross country state meet, nada. I thought: Did he get injured? Did he quit running altogether? What happened?
I just learned that he moved to NM for his junior year and he has been tearing it up. Won the NM state CC title with a course record of 15:17. Ran a 4:08 mile at Arcadia. Has a PR of 9:02. I believe he's being recruited by BYU.
Looking at that 3200m at Wayne this past weekend, I wonder where Vause would have been in the mix. This generation of Ohio boys prep runners is definitely very special.

Vause was also the third nonsenior finisher at NXR SW last fall. He has a good shot at NXN individually if he improves
Do you think the state record for 1600m could be broken? 4:05 all the way back in 1988. Crazy it's lasted that long with super shoes and everything.
My prediction is that Gabelman will win the 1600m state title in 4:07. The record will stand for at least another year.
Even though runners like Horter and Mountain ran a faster time than the 4:05 late in their high school careers (I believe), that record has proven to be elusive on the day of the state meet; it has become untouchable. The spirit of Kennedy lives on!

A solid time. Although it would be poetic if Kennedy’s torch was passed to another Westerville North runner.
That race looked hot. Gabelman looked strong at the front all throughout. Max Liao turned in a great performance as did Kilgallon, stepping it up from his usual duties at the 800m. Long was also in the mix. All 8 place scorers under 4:12 for the mile.
