WA comes back at 6:13 handing off to Thomas
10:43.39 CR for Wa with Providence and BYU also under record
10:43, 10:44, 10:44 -- all under the former CR -- WA, Providence BYU.
Stanford 4th with W&W in new SR 10:47.
I think Thomas was about 4:30 on anchor and it looked like BYU and Providence made up ground on her
First time BU has held a "DMR Challenge".
Must have seen the success Notre Dame has had over the year with its Alex Wilson meet and wanted to get in on the action.
In the years to come, let's see if this meet funnels talent away from AW and the AR meet today.
WA 3:15.29 opener -- I believe -- is the fastest women's DMR 1200 leg ever run. That's 3x65/400s.
Just a few years ago, the fastest time ever was 3:19 by Rachel Schneider (Smith).
Shoes have helped a little, but women are finally learning how to race a 1200 meters.
By the end of this decade, would expect to see a 2-flat 800 gal go out in 63s and get that opening leg down close to 3:10.
4:26 for May of Provience, but "only" 4:30 for BYU
Why would Duke travel up there and not start the race? Everything seemed normal earlier today. The members of the women's DMR team were posting photos of themselves in uniform on Instagram story
Watch how much her team supported her at the end of the race in the video and you'll understand that team.
She’s incredible! I think she’s modeling her career after seeing the XC and track successes of teammate Ramsden, but also Amina Maatoug/Juliette Whitaker who ran XC and still could run2:01s in the 800. Gorriaran will continue that trend.
Mile and 800
women dmr
Whitaker and Gorriaran were both already has xc stars. Whitaker was a multi year foot locker runner and Gorriaran was Rhode Island state champ. Roison Willis also ran his xc, but not quite at same level.
Anyway not really something new for them. At NCAA level, Sage Hurta was 800/xc and Roesler and Mu both did 400-mile.
BU needs to step up and hire a real timer. Lancer is crap. It gives 200m splits but doesn't add them up to give each relay leg split.
They charge 100 bucks for a 5k entry but will hire the cheapest timer available.
What a banger of a DMR! Washington held off heroic efforts on every leg. And Carly Thomas...wow. Opens in 62 to put the hurt down, moderates the middle, then still has enough to outkick the proud anchors of BYU and Providence.
Parker Valby post 5k interview... Worst of all time? Are Parker Valby interviews always cringe?
