For those defending Sean with their lives saying oh he had so many good runners break 9 in high school and oh look at the success with Ronan with 3:54 or mireles with 7:52 in the 3k it’s because he absolutely trains them to the ground and hopes they survive. I don’t think any of you remember seeing Staggs or Mireles race in the spring at even conference well guess what because Brosnan broke them because his intense training that made them run those times is not sustainable and he could care less about injury prevention when he rather focus on his golden girls Sam McDonnell and Mia Barnett. Those who have long standing success with Brosnan as their coach are honestly those lucky enough to not get hurt and have the resources to recover because obviously with all their sponsorships the Young’s and Sahlmans had more benefits that I’m sure most D1 college athletes get. Let’s look at some of those low 9 to sub 9 milers. Dev Doshi ran 9:02 and sub 15 5k as a sophomore and his been pretty much broken ever since. Hector Martinez another rising star as a junior broke as well and does not even run anymore. Or how about Aaron Cantu who broke 9 his senior year with his wife Tanya in charge so the training was the same. He ended up hurt by masters blowing up and running in the 9:40s. I tip my hat to the Young’s and Sahlamns for staying relatively healthy but not everyone can and it’s no wonder why UCLAs runners improved so much last year under Brosnan not because he’s a miracle worker but because if you give anyone with talent extremely hard training after they had a crappy coach with Dev Elizondo for 4 years you’re bound to see improvement.

Who’s comparing?????. Mireles also ran 7:53 last year and ran 8:00 this year in results. You are trying to find something not there. I couldn’t find a mile for Mireles last year so relax on the long reach.
Mireles’ PR in the 1500 is 3:50. He ran 8:02 last year at this time and 8:00 this year. It’s hardly a long reach that he has dropped close to 10’seconds from his mile/1500 time since Brosnan has left.

Brosnan is truly one of the best distance coaches in the US. On thos same Newbury park team’s Brosnan had mutable sub 9min and a 8:44 3200m runner. Not to mention a girl’s run 4:36 in the 1600m and girls national relay records. The list of achievements is unprecedented.
The argument about the Sahlman’ and Young’s makes no sense. Imagine taking the top two families out of other coaches resume and you still would never get the results Brosnan got at Newbury Park.
How absolutely disrespectful to the MANY coaches in the US who have had far more success than 3 or 4 great high school years.

Maybe UCLA just has no talented runners right now, or ones that actually want to be good. Avery has over invested in the 400, being a 400 coach that makes sense. Their new 800 guy looks interesting, less than a second off his outdoor PR at Boston so clearly making improvements

They will go through a complete overall never year when Avery Anderson doesn’t get renewed in June. Hopefully for the better

I'll chime in here. Ferris definitely has past issues with at Wake Forest. This is not rumor. On that note Brosnan has nothing to do with Ferris, his past or Ferris getting hired at UCLA. No reason to keep bringing him up.
UCLA was desperate for a coach. I know of one person who turned it down because of the future of the program and the current staff. The program in in trouble as of now and it's widely known.
What's ironic about this post is how UCLA is such a terrible place now, but when Brosnan took the job, he claimed to have turned down a bunch of jobs and was patiently waiting for "the right situation" where he felt he could be most successful. He claimed he took the UCLA job because they had all the pieces in place and support to make it one of the top programs in the country. Now that he got fired, the same people and the same situation are now horrible and it's a disaster where they don't care about the sport and an impossible place to be successful.

I will admit I initially thought Brosnan was a coaching guru. But looking at the Young's and Sahlman's results in college, it's clear that they are some of the most talented runners in the history of the United States.
Anybody could have coached them to fast high school times. Brosnan got really lucky.
If Brosnan is as good as he claims he is, then he could easily get a high school coaching job (at Newbury Park or anywhere else) and instantly create another dynasty. He won't because he knows he can't without hitting the genetic lottery in the town.
Now he's just sitting around unemployed. Why not go back to high school and improve your resume while you wait for bigger opportunities? Because he knows he can't have the same level of success. Now Brosnan seems like a con artist.

He has not overly invested in the 400. He has no direction at all and it is sad. Relays ran national level times but no individual performances to note. Hurdles have disappeared. Coaching staff are muted. The athletes believe wholly in themselves but have not been set up for success. Avery allowed non track people to influence his decisions and the direction of his program and from what I am hearing the whispers are the program is on the chopping block. This last part better not be true. Hopefully they move on and hire someone with a vision and influence that can navigate the program back to the top.

The only coach doing anything for UCLA is Avery Anderson and his Wife who coached PV. The throws are straight up pathetic, jumps suc and I’m not a distance fan but they are bottom of the barrel. How has this great school have such a bad showing in track. It’s embarrassing. This coaching staff needs to be revamped big time
