Can’t wait to connect with all of you and share the incredible journey behind the pages of my story of faith. Let’s make memories, inspire each other, and embrace the power of God’s never-ending grace in our lives!
Sounds like at least one thing is smoother than her hurdle technique.
Of course their prerogative, but really fascinating that they almost don’t exist. There was that period last year where everyone was irritated they weren’t competing and now it feels as if no one cares anymore it they compete.
Its February 9th, what are you expecting?? Athiing Mu broke the american record in her last race of the season last year. Calling her almost retired is absurd
Haven't heard much from Ohtani, Kershaw, Betts, Judge and Trout either. 🥴
Less than 6 months ago Athing Mu broke the national record in the 800m and won a bronze medal at the world championships. She cemented herself as the greatest US middle distance runner ever, all before the age of 22 (Centro is the only one with comparable hardware, but Mu has times + medals while Centro just has medals). She isn’t retired, it’s just February of an Olympic year.
I have a hard time blaming the athletes and coaches in this situation. The lack of incentives to have star athletes perform to promote the sport comes from the governing bodies. There needs to be major changes if we want to see our best race more often and in ways that are easier to access for the average fan.
A good example would be what the NBA faced in regards to "load management". Over a period of years, both players and coaches realized they were better off resting the star players more and more often for the supposed longer term benefit of the team. It would have been silly to expect them to police themselves in order to benefit the fans. So it took the board of governors to step in and institute policies that curtailed this.
Is it perfect? It depends on who you ask, but at least now the typical ticket buying fan is more likely get to see their favorite player on a random Tuesday night of a back-to-back.
So until World Athletics, the USATF as well as sponsors get together to solve this, blaming athletes is wrongheaded. But we as T&F fans have for decades bemoaned the lack of leadership to promote the sport on a professional level, so don't hold your breath that anything changes.

Athing Mu went through a mini slump last year because of a bad breakup. She seems to be in good spirits now, so I think she'll be able to run even faster than she did last year.
They're on a different cycle (ha) than everyone else. Your average poster here, who is interested in if Ben True is still racing, is not the relevant market for them. Through whatever contracts, social media, book media, whatever, the economics of their lives are not that of a typical runner. The job is basically to show up and be part of the medal count. NBC will surely build up some promos in the way they do to sell Olympians to the average Americans. I'm sure they'll work the inactivity into the story.
How did that go for Mu last year? Your job can be to win medals, and still race when there isn't a medal on the line. Keely's stock is still going up faster than Mu. Last year they were even. Mu had a slightly faster season best, but lost at worlds. If this trend continues then Keely will have the faster PR and higher finish at the olympics.
And for Sydney, Femke Bol is younger and closing the gap. Femke just ran sub 50 for an indoor 400 meters, something Sydney has never done. Last year they were only half a second in the flat 400 apart. And Femke got to less than a second from Sydney's 400 hurdle time. If Femke improves some more this year, like it appears she is based on her recent 400 indoor time, and Sydney stays the same, Femke could be winning gold in Paris. So this strategy of not racing very often could be turning them from the dominant runner in their events to silver or bronze medals.

You make no sense. Athing was in a really bitchy mood at Worlds last year because of a bad breakup. That's why she got bronze, not because of her fitness.
And we don't even know which event Sydney will run at Worlds this year. Sydney and Femke might not even run against each other.

That is the lamest crock of schit ever. Moraa dusted her.

If you don't like America, leave. Go and apply for Dutch or British citizenship.
As a fellow American, can I just say, please **** off. Just because someone doesn't like something about the US, it doesn't mean they should get the boot. Being able to criticize things here is part of the freedom that people are guaranteed
they are doing things the way they and/or their coaches want. i can't be mad at them. I don't dislike them. Like op said, I just don't care. when they make the olympics, i will mildly root for them, but will be almost as happy with a femke or keely victory.
the casual fan who only views every 4 years will still love them. they won't even realize how little they race. and that's where the money is.

It seems many of you are imagining Syd running in Paris. I don't think that's likely at all. We will know whether or not she's retired by day 3 or 4 of the Trials. I suspect she is.
The response from some of you may be: "She never announced retirement!" That's correct. If she did, NB and whoever makes that giant watch would stop paying her. She gets another 2 years of salary this way.
Why would anyone ever announce retirement? Did Frank Shorter? Paul Tergat certainly hasn't. It will become obvious this summer. Think about it; 2 extra years of pay.

Give me a break. Yes, Sydney may end up retiring a few years earlier than most track athletes, but she isn't retiring a few months before the Olympics.
