I agree with this. I honestly don’t believe he’s a 3:48 miler at this point, but I’m almost splitting hairs since I’m guessing he could run 3:33/3:50. But a 12:57 collegiate who’s getting easily outclassed in his conference 800 is not a 1500 specialist. He’s a 3k-10k guy who’s now showing he has the potential to be competitive at an international level. At least we can abandon the “He should move up to the marathon right after college because he has no future on the track” thinking that many LetsRunners had only a few months ago.
Who am I to put a limit on his 1500, maybe he will run 3:29.xx some day. But If he does, he will also be running way under 7:30 and sub-12:50.
