Give her a break. I know I always run slower than my best when I'm drunk.

Out drinking two weeks before nationals huh? Classic example of why Carolina is the place good runners go to die.
Wow, drinking beer two weeks before a race. Unheard of. This is the first time a good runner has done such a thing. She'll never amount to anything now.
Assuming that the case against her is solid, I guess one question that needs to be asked is whether or not there will be a Nationals for her this year.
I know, I know, everyone has a couple of beers when they are under-aged, BUT she was caught. Plus, she took a couple of legal hits beyond just the drinking. Be interesting to see if the school/coach/athletic department take any actions.

I thought this was NC State? Maybe it was Michigan? Or Duke? Or was that last week? I'm so confused, "the place runners go to die" changes so often that I can't keep up.
its too bad. She's damn cute.
Name one guy who has come out of that program in any recent years that has done anything. Yes, you will pull Shalane out and maybe even Alice, but there are exceptions to everything. The fact is that UNC is a program that has been overhyped and has underperformed. Brian McGovern ran faster on his own than he ever did with the school. Their own runners tell kids not to come there if they want to get better.
To the other guy, this is not just a meet, its the National Championship. Downplay the effects of alcohol on your performance all you want, but its proven that it will inhibit your performance and a two week time frame is not that long. Maybe if it was some dinky spring break meet it wouldn't be that big of a deal, but the National Championshp? Also, I'm sure Ms. Felnagle is on an athletic scholarship. This is akin to being a paid employee. She should have a greater sense of responsibility to the program and institution that is paying for her above average education.
Meghan Owen.
What was Owens best mile at NC. Was it anywhere near 4:39?
If you have a couple of beers to weeks from a race, it will have ZERO effect on your performance.
pics?
This exact thing happened to me in high school. My friend hosted a party, with the help of his dad no less, and the cops were on to it big time. They called the house a couple of times and were also seen spotlighting the house. Some friends of ours wanted to play a prank, so they started spotlighting the house and pulled in the driveway. We were a bunch of paranoid drunk idiots so we hid in the attic. When I stood up on the sheetrock I immediately fell through the ceiling and onto my friend's dad's satellite reciever. He was sitting on the couch watching Johnny Carson's last show. The friends who pulled the prank, they were standing at the front door watching the whole thing. When I looked at them their eyes were the size of pancakes. We got our asses chewed pretty hard, but could laugh at it the next day. My friend's dad owns an interior decorating business, so the hole was patched within a week. Brie was not present. Good times.

First of all, Brie was acting like a typical college student. She just happens to be living in the Internet era, where every move comes under constant scrutiny.
Last but not least, with all due respect to the east-coast runners, it's the indoor nationals! There are a great deal of athletes and/or schools who place VERY little emphasis upon the indoor season, and the last time I checked, indoor track is not an Olympic sport!
Carolina has great parties, that's why kids want to go there.
i loved the parties at carolina and i ran there too...but alas, that's probably why i sucked. oh well, they were good times nonetheless
Give the kids a break. I've skiied wasted! They are just doing collegiate track THEIR way! I welcome them as true Bodeists!
i suppose that's one way to crash a party
So I was on the track team along with my two roommates that were charged in the party. Here is how it works, we throw the best parties ever, which is specifically why I am no longer on the team.
I also heard they were set up by the ALE

When you sign to do any sport at the colligiate level, you make the decision that you are not a typical college student.

You're kidding right? Have you ever been to college and hung out with people who play sports?
